Haha, wasnt supposed to be a straight line. They sort of zig zig along the piece behind it, to give it a supposedly stronger join.

Pffft, are they rose jointed? I'm going to be buying some very short coilies for the rear that are rose jointed (might be rod ended?) once I've fabed my rad arms.

Got the L/H sill on today. So that side is now completely done!

It wasnt pretty when took the over sill off! rusty metal everywhere. Thought i was going to be ordering some inner sills!

spent abit (a few hours TBH!) of time chopping out the rusty parts of metal to realise that the inners had been replaced before but the rusty metal left in.

So with all of the rust out everything was solid ish! just needed a couple of patches, one being under the cross member where they obviously couldnt get to from the inside.

yes thats two sills cut off....why did i bother letting them bodge it to go through the MOT! oh well weight saving i guess!

Cleaned it up, seam sealed it all before putting the outer sill on for abit of extra protection. Lined up the panel (patern part needed some persuasion) and on it went!

Was about to stone chip it but my gun has packed up. Its not sucking the paint up so i'll have to give that a looksee tomorrow.

Cheers for looking, James.

I have gotta say you got off lucky with oversills. I had to go this far to get rid of the damage they did to my car. Bloody idiots who fit them should be shot.

Ouch. It was my boss that put them on because they were the panels that i bought, so i guess it should be me who was shot!

They were only on for around a year so damage was minimised i guess.

I did laugh when i poked the metal under the cross member and it ALL dissapeared!!

Quite pleased with the amount of weight i took out of there in excess metal/rust where it had been reapired and left. With the two sills and the little bits of rusty metal everywhere i took out just over 1kg!! awesome!

Just got to look forwards to doing an inner wing and sill on the other side now!

Really feels good to know im getting close to having all of the bodywork done!

I dont see why you dident leave the rear seat in and just junk the boot floor. Surely thats lighter?

Current threads would be to differ.

its thin sheet anyway. I was debating just bonding an ally skin over it but i wanted it welded in to add abit of strength there.

That panel is lighter than the boot floor that was cut out, and the bulkhead was actually heavier than it looks.

anyways, too late for all this talk now! that bulkheads long gone!

i measures up for a tank the other day..30 litre will go in nicely and it its the perfect size for me to create a thin ally bulkhead that seals the tank into the boot opening.

Should work out nicely. It will give me space and protection to run the exhaust where i am thinking also...

Been out there today after being abit lazy recently.

Just been messing around with other things at the weekends...got to have abit of fun i guess...

Anyway! Got alot done today and it feels good to know im VERY nearly there with the shell! (rust repairs/mods anyway!)

Got both the inner wing, and the sill on the R/H side today!

Then stone chipped the new bits, then put Schutz on the underneath (added protection, its got wax oil in it but drys hard)

It was a long day!

Enough of me boring you, Pics:

Just got to get the scuttle on now and i can make up my Mig box in card board and get a local firm to bend it all up for me! Weld up the holes in the inner wings, clean up a few areas of extra metal on the inside and then stone chip the inside in white.

Ive got a week off in August so want to have the cage here for then, that way things should start to progress nicely!

Thank you, James.

EDIT: Sorry about the pics, a few quick snaps while i was tired and only had the awefull Iphone camera to hand.

On your first pic james. There is some cracking in the paint down the door pillar. What did you use to paint it? My floor did this a few years back, I got it all smooth then painted it. Only for it to throw all the paint off about three months later. Just a wee heads up to look into it before you get too far down the line.

That was just because I was getting impatient and painted the stone chip onto seam sealer that was still wet.

As the seam sealed dried faster then the stone chip it caused that cracking you can see.

The Schutz covers it all up though so it will be ok. Cheers for the heads up.
