Thanks chaps, really pleased with the grille.

It will be at MITP, but I'm not committing to a year yet lol *wink*

Clutch won't dissengage enough to get it in gear. Managed to reverse it out of the garage, but got fuck all after that.

Going to stick an RTS in it, then I'm (hopefully) not fucking about with it later.

Remove clutch arm, bend it, put it back.

It's an MED arm, no bending that fucker. I've had enough of the pre-verto. I need the car to work and be cheepish to run for a while as I'm permanently skint with Wifey going part time.

Sounds like the clutch might need further bleeding. Especially if you got gears to begin with but then lost it.

Just a thought mind, I'm sure you've bled it to death.

As tom says or have you got a genuine slave or is it a cheapo one?

Is the arm at the clevis pin move 1/2 and inch on full depress of the clutch?

Those pesky slaves don't seem to last until I got a force racing alloy version, until then I was replacing them after every winter.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

It's a genuine cylinder and we checked all the usual pre-verto stuff. I'm going to fix it buy sticking an RTS in there. I don't need the hassle...

Lokes lovely. TBH, it doesn't sound like a problem that changing the flywheel will fix.

If it's moving but not far enough, do as suggested above.

So... pulled all the preverto gubbins off and ordered some shiny.

Then got my best bastardising hat on and bodged some Valeos together.

Got it all back together and bled up with a new verto slave. Pedal is good, certainly lighter than the grey cover that was on it before. Used a 2mm and a 2.2mm spring, so should hold about 400 x the torque my gaycharger will make.

So... put it in gear, clutch down and handbrake off. Drive not disengaged. So, back where I started, we pulled it all to bits and found a nice big lever to get the seized primary gear off the crank.

Arse.

What clearance did you have the bushes sized to?

They where fairly close to the crank, but obviously too close once it had a bit of hear through it.

Has the tail of the crank been polished after it was hardened?

The reason I ask is that I had a Minispares straight cut primary gear bush failure on an MED crank that was dull grey on the crank tail from hardening.

Yes, had it all polished up. The crank has grown as part of the hardening process. *oh well*

Get the crank polished with emery and fettle the bush out on the lathe and get the bugger back together and down that MOT station!

Not putting it in my lathe, it will come out with a thread cut in it *wink* I think a trip to Force Racing HQ is in order.

Andy, surely a polish with some emery will suffice. It's not like it needs much material removing?

Without a healthy clearance then the light pre-verto flywheel coupled with the high first gear of a S/C gearbox gets too much heat into the primary - the flywheel/backplate can't dissipate the heat enough.
Been there a couple of times now.
The RTS you have now will help, but check those clearances - from memory on a performance/competition engine you should be aiming for about 8thou, it might weep oil a bit but it shouldn't nip up.

It needs to be turned down Tom, the bush is not flat. You can feel a ridge as you run your finger into it.

I'm going to clean up the crank and have a good measure.

That's right, keep at it! The last 2% of the build is the hardest and longest bit.

We've now got stripping and removing a mini clutch down to a fine art!!

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.
