I can't see in the latest pictures if you have done the proposed mod to the bumpstop area of the towers. You can get rid of the whole area where the bumpstop fits, well I have. Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

Potentially there will be more flex, but most of the strength inn the frame is at the rear where all the main suspension components are mounted.

Today has been a good day on the car, I finished the subframe and it's now sat with 2 nice new coats of Red oxide, all that's left to do on it is to give it a good sand down and get rid of any runs.

For what mate the subframe? when I pull the old one out of the car I am going to weigh it with all the old bits on it, then when I build the new one back up thats when i will see the saving. So is there some science to this subframe stuff or is it a case of drilling holes where you can?
I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

So is there some science to this subframe stuff or is it a case of drilling holes where you can? Less to rust. I took the approach of looking at where the highest stresses are and covering the rest in holes. Nothing like the extent some like 1380 rich has gone, but basically avoid drilling holes in areas that will significantly weaken the structure of it. There is a thread somewhere with a load of pics of butchered subframes. Edited by minimole23 on 13th Oct, 2012. On 7th Oct, 2010 5haneJ said:

So is there some science to this subframe stuff or is it a case of drilling holes where you can? Less to rust. Well as this has started the trend again ![]() first of all I sat and looked at pics on here of some very holey subframes, then I looked at what I was going to be doing on the car and I did NOT what to compromise this. so I sat with a pen and marked up where i would like to make some holes. I stayed away from what I thought was a high stress areas, and when all the holes were done i seam welded the whole thing everywhere that 2 bits of steel met. Then i cut a load of gussets for all the right angles to stop the side flex. now, I am going to see the saving when I pull the frame out of the car and weigh it all in as some stuff weighs more ie Coilovers. But I should see the saving when the frame is all built up, as I have made an effort to change as many fixings as possible into Ti and look at every part to see how much i can lose. I got Jo to make me up a spreadsheet that puts in the weights of the old part and then the new part showing me the amount saved for each part and then the total overall saving its witch craft ![]() Thanks simon. I looked at carls to start with, then i had a chat with him at coombe and as my set up is so odd it would be very hard to fit in with his frame, as it has some more bars in all the wrong places for me. if i was n/a i would have one, and as for making my self one one day i will have one, maybe when i am not working outside in the wet lol.
