Today I got the first of my new toys, was offered this 150ltrs compressor for a 1/4 of the price its worth so it was rude not to get it. It all works fine it just needs a good clean. I am well happy now.

Thing is he has lost the rubber feet but they are around £30 I am on the look out for a die grinder now.

Also I have a small hobby lathe in the pipe line for the price of a good night out.

Hi all,

Well I have had a long time to sit and think about what I want to do to the car. So I am now starting a big overhaul of the front end, as I did the back before I left. With weight saving being the name of the game, but subtlety in the front of my mind at all times i.e not a swiss cheese Mk1 lol! I am not putting a time line on this rebuild as that's when its seems to go worng for me, and I want to have a good year next year.

Since I have been back, I have made time every night to do a little bit. I started with the Eng as a whole and either cut or ground all the casting marks just to clean the block and the gearbox flanges up. Then as I have a spare flywheel housing I started to cut the castings and little bits off, as I was at it I started work on the dip stick and the sump plug*surprised* but as a Paul W (Master weight loss) told me once "Grams make Kilos". I also have a mocked up Eng mount that I will make in Titanium along with some top shock mounts. Also whilst I was away I was ordering some billet parts and I have some of Carls parts on order, so I should see the Kgs drop off.

Count so far.
Wgt Before - Wgt After - Wgt saved
Sub frame------------ 36.00......... 17.60........ 18.40
Fuel Tanks ------------10.00......... 4.10.......... 5.90
Fuel Lines------------- 1.40........... 671........... 729
Oil P.R.V-------------- 47........... 13............ 34
Slave cylinder bracket--243........... 156........... 87
Flywheel housing------- 3.17.......... 2.92.......... 250
wok--------------------- 1.380........ 1,289........ 91
Dipstick---------------- 90........... 52............ 38
Sump plug-------------- 46 ........... 36............ 10
=25.539kgs

Thanks Simon.

Thanks lads,

It has been full steam ahead today, I went down to the lockup to get the old subframe out that I started last year.

When I was back on R&R I had the chance to get half of a subframe that I could use to fix this one with. When I got the mount of the old bit of subframe I gave it a good clean.

I cut the old mount off and then set about welding the new one back on.

Then I seam welded the whole subby and I sort of wish I had had it dipped cleaned, cos when I was welding it all sorts of gunk was leeking out. So I had to keep stopping and clean it as it was f==king the weld up. I know it looks very agricultural in the pics but I will sit and dress this up in time.

Then I made some gussets.

Now I am in two minds, can I cut this bit back?? as I will be using coil overs it's not needed.

Then these little babies turned up nice work as always.

The little box of TI bolts is starting to fill up.

Thanks simon.

25kg is a great start. Intrigued by your sump plug - I lightened mine by drilling right down to the magnet 1/2", then 3/4" just in the hex area and then machined the hex to 1" AF, cant remember the saving though

I seriously doubt it!
