Yeah, I had more than 50% throttle on to get it going, then as soon as it caught it revved straight to 6k. It seems very very free revving, which can only be a good thing. *smiley*

The SC system has a generic cold start correction factor table. This should in most cases not need much tuning and should be able to start the engine with much less cranking time.

The cold start correction factor table is dependant on the fuel map being somewhere correct, and the fuel map is dependant on the size of injector, since uses an injector pulse width rather than a calculated volumetric percentage. If your injectors are different to those for the map you are using the fuel map will not be correct for your set up. If the injectors are the same size the base map should work better than it has been, which could suggest that the cold start corrections need adjusting.

something else to consider is that this cold start correction factor is reduced as the number of revolutions increase as a sort of anti flood protection.

also, these base settings could be significantly different as there is a huge surface area that needs wetting up with the injectors so far away from the head and the added complication of the supercharger.

Lastly datalog everytime so you can look at it and see what is going on. also, as everyone on TM will advise...... Wideband Lambda. What is that showing, and is it wired up to the ECU and if not why not *wink*

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Thanks Colin, kind of get what you mean.

Wideband is fitted, just needs physically putting in the car. That said, the sensor is probably full of oil...

crack it up without the new sensor in to start with!

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Had a spare hour, so pulled it apart again.

Lambda is more black than it looks in the picture. Obviously the centre exhaust port is the main cause, and possibly a bit on no 3 exhaust port. Can only assume that some oil is getting sucked into the bores through the ex valves. Exhaust is full of oil. Inlet is nice and clean.

EDIT: Also put some oil down the pushrod holes, but it drains down too fast to see if it's them leaking.

Just shoved a torch in the ports. No 6 push rod hole lights up with a torch in the inlet.

It will be running again on the new head at the weekend. I'll get this one sorted in due course.

Well done in finding the issue, and now have a good plan to sort. Good luck with the weekend mate and can't wait to see it running

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

andy , is there somewhere you can get a sleeve that would slide tightly down the pushrod hole to seal it ? i seem to remember there used to be for grinding that area as far as poss.

Im going to fit John's head for the time being. This one will be taking a trip to Benross for sleeving, then getting refited over the autumn.

The engine is back together and running well. Brett has been helping me get the efi. Got it a bit closer to how it should be, but we ran out of electricity before we could get it up to temp and bed the cam in. A couple of the rockers are rubbing the rocker box slightly, so that needs a bit of fettle.

Happy enough with the engine now, so can crack on with a few other bits in the mean time. *smiley*
