That hose may get very hot next the the down pipe mate.

Sensor looks better now.

The active part of the sensor, buried in the plastic, is quite a lot smaller in diameter than the sensor body (which is why the bolt-on type toothed wheels are only 5-6mm thick), so the bit that matters should now be well over the teeth.

Lag the downpipe of the water hose, or both with exhaust wrap.

At least the hose is water cooled!

I put some heat shield type tube of eBay to cover my water cooling pipes. Haven't had it running properly to know if it's any use. But might be worth a try.

Have you got a link to that stuff.

I have some high quality stuff around some of my water pipes, but it's not that neat.

Thanks it was just the angle in the other photo.

Thanks guys think I'll try that pipe heat shield stuff. Says it can reflect heat up to 1000 degrees!

I just angled the take off from the block upwards and ran a normal silicone hose round to he turbo with no issues.

Has anyone fitted a small electric pump to pump water round the engine with the electric fan on, after engine shut down?
I'm still using the mechanical fan as its nice and reliable, but just thought a electric one could be good to avoid hot spots in the turbo when the main pump isn't spinning.

Yes. We ran one on the metro can. Used a heater pump from a Merc.

the only place id be able to plump it in is either inbetween the dry deck hose, or between the heater inlet/out let.

Ours was a Bosch one like the second link, but anything along those lines would do it. We just used it to push water through the turbo after shut down.

yes andy exactly what i was planning on usng it for with the fan on.

Would it be ok to use the heater outlet on the head as a feed for it? Or will I lose the flow/pressure in the dry deck hose?

We used a sandwich plate under the thermostat, but heater outlet should do the same job. Can't see it hurting engine cooling.

Might just use the out let on the sandwich plate otherwise it'll mean changing it again lol.
Although I think it would be neater to use the heater tap out let to the pump, then to the heater, then out the heater to the bottom hose.

Hey Josh.
I have one of those bosch pumps which circulates it round the intake manifold then the turbo before going into the sandwich plate on the thermostat housing. I have it on a swith which starts it on a 3 min timer relay along with an electric fan which is fixed to my side mount rad. It can come on when I turn the ignition off which helps with heat soak or if I am stuck in traffic it comes on and helps the cooling. I also fitted an extra temp sender in the pipework after the turbo to see what's happening.
I need to address my breathers as I am getting crankcase pressure which is causing an annoying oil leak. I need to do something like yours.

Do you find the temperature after the turbo is high?

I'm in two minds now how to plumb it in. It's very crowded at the thermostat side of the engine bay so if I revert back to standard mini stat and heater tap on the other side of the head, I'd un crowd it a bit I guess. Just anoying as it means swapping it all back over lol.

To be honest my motor runs really cool, but it does start to rise after a good blast. When driving normal the temp after the turbo shows mid 60s. I run a 72c stat.
I came out of the heater take off on the side of the head then into the pump, but after the pump i fitted a tee. One side of the tee supplied the manifold & turbo. The other side went through a spi heater tap which can be mounted pretty much anywhere then into the heater matrix. Which means i can turn off the tap and not get cooked in the car and the turbo gets a constant feed which is also good for number 4 cylinder. The water flow is still very good even though the electric pump isnt switched on.
Before i fitted the pump and i had been for a good drive i could heat the water in the turbo water pipes boiling up, even though i had it ticking over before switching off. I have to admit things are very tight with pipework around radiator side but i do run quite a big intake which isnt helping.

Do you have a build thread? Would be interested to see how you've crammed it all in lol.

Removed the front subframe...

I reinforced a different one a while ago so thought I'd use that as its got rose jointed bits on it too :)

I also took the fuel tank out and trial fitted the MPI tank. looks like its going to be a pain as the neck is shorter than the other one! I'm sure i'll manage in the end though :)
