I also bought an engine same as you did and did the long trip to fetch it. I was lucky in the fact mine was in pieces so got a good look at the parts of which there was some nice pieces and it looked a good deal I'e head, block, pistons new or machined etc.

I checked the parts over in the many box's and we agreed that anything that was missing would be boxed up and collected by a friend who travels that way every week.
When I finally gave him the list all on the list was not included in the sale, I told him I purchased a complete but stripped engine and box only thing he said was missing was the starter and alternator, to which he replied well they wasn't with it. As far as I am considered he,s a con artist that should never be trusted.

I accept I should have checked everything before paying but I'm a old fashioned guy that trust folk

Maybe its the guy off phone jacker george agdgdgwngo.

It is a shame he has done this to a few people now. He is building quite a big fan base!

anywayssssss...

New things!

I also found out he hadn't put the washes between the flywheel housing and the idle gear

Just got an email from some guy in Nigeria... Wants to sell me an engine but I have to forward all my bank details, credit card info and even my passport.

Seems a bit strange he wants all that but it's such a good deal!

Anyway, all details sent... Just waiting for a reply now! :)

Just picked up a true complete engine and box just needs fuel and electric lol. It has been taken straight out car still sat in subframe then covered over in a tarp for a year this was from a good guy.

Anyway liking the look of your stash there looks like you've been a busy boy spending.
I see some nice pieces there hows the engine doin are you about there.

Fitted the metro cam and oil pump last night.

Test fitted the Duplex timing gear, looks like its nice and flat so won't need shimming or milling down.

Rather than 'eyeballing' it, you should take the chain off and hold the edge of a metal rule across the two sprockets. If the rule doesn't touch both edges of both sprockets you'll need to shim it.

Agree with what Gary says. Only takes moment to do it anyhow.

Also I would fit the rubber pad tensioner as well.

You need something longer so it can sit on both edges of both sprockets.

As Gary says.

Ideally a 12" steel rule but a shoolboy/girl's standard plastic one will do if in good condition.

Also, if you haven't done so already, you should put the nut on the camshaft sprocket and tighten it then check the endfloat on the camshaft - the float is controlled by the triagular plate behind the sprocket (it's actually a thrust bearing) which runs between the end of the camshaft and the back of the sprocket, hence why you can only measure it properly with the nut tightened.
If there is excessive float it also affects chain alignment.

Is it worth me just replacing the triangle plate since they are only about £5?

I have got a metal 30cm ruler now. i have been going off this video i found

A new triangle can help reduce endfloat.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Didn't account for dwell when looking for tdc. Didn't measure end float on the cam. Didn't accurately look for any difference in height between the sprockets. I've only watched 9 mins. Can't stand any more. All the bashing and crashing and ham-fistedness is embarrassing.

Put a steel ruler across the sprockets last night and all is good.
