Not been up to too much with this as I have been too busy procrastinating.

However I have had a little flurry of progress (Mostly thanks to other TM'ers).

Took my box over to Andy's to have the diff cover fettled with the power-file, the ATB now fits and turns freely. Just got to bolt it back together now.

Got an RTS sorted on a Mini spares steel flywheel (Thanks Sprocket!)

Got my rods balanced end over end (Thanks Brett!)

Block has been hot tanked, bored, decked, new cam bearings installed and the pistons pressed on to the rods and the whole rotating assembly has been balanced (Thanks BENROSS for helping me out with this)

I've given it a splash of go faster red oxide under coat

Dropped a spare head on the block with an old gasket and bolted it all down to check my suspicions that I would have to grind a fair bit off the compressor housing and the bump above the fuel pump to get the T2 on mirage to fit (post grinding pic!)

Also did a check with a GT17 on a Matty manifold. This has a lot better clearance on the block however I reckon the bulkhead clearance will be very tight if/when I ever get around to fitting it.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Mirage and GT17 fits nice if the snail is pointing towards the floor. No grinding of the block needed at all with my setup. Bulkhead clearance is a little snug but it fits

I would really need the outlet pointing upwards. Sure I can make it work :)

Indeed it is Rob. I'm feeling reasonably motivated apart from I keep realising I have more things to buy! lol

I know what you mean; you think your getting somewhere and then you find you need to spend a chunk of money or need to wait for a delivery and it all grinds to a halt again.

On a more positive note it only looks like I need to steal the cylinder head off the clubby now, which will be replaced when Andy sorts his out.

Unlikely. I don't think I have the time or money and likely will lose motivation knowing me!

I'm just going to take my time and try to enjoy it like I have been doing recently *smiley*

Well I made a bit more progress this evening.

Got my micrometer out and measured up my crank just to make sure everything was ok, I then lapped my flywheel on and then gave the crank a good clean.

Gave the block a quick clean and installed the crank, bearings and torqued up the caps to make sure it rotates freely.

Little video:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pjSROLy7tQ

Checked the end float which was just 3thou.

After that thought I would strip it back down and splash a bit of paint about.

Whilst I was waiting for the first coat of paint to cure enough to put a second on I thought it would be a good idea to finish off my gearbox. I shimmed up the diff, bolted it all together and the ATB spins freely now!

Quite pleased with my progress.

From Sheffield now live in York tha noz

Its coming on chief, did we get that black from the guy at Rufforth? no idea what it is but its really good engine paint it goes on so well, I used bmc green on me lathe. Regarding the turbo, my mirage manifold and the orientation of the gt17 as you have it in the pic was identical to the setup that was in the car,2-3mm shave needed on the block and it cleared the bulkhead fine but that was with an adjustable engine steady and the motor canted forward a bit, the only bit that would snag is the acutator arm on the heat proof shit on the bulkhead but the arm was welded on reversed

It's just some black engine enamel I got from an auto-jumble seems to go on nicely.

That's pretty much the idea Steve to hide the leaks, spills and muck! Plus I think black is the only engine colour which will really suit this car. Thanks again for all the help, no doubt I will want some more before I am done!

Aye! Paint from Rufforth, seems good. The Mirage has a T2 on it Oli, if I were to fit the GT17 I will probably sell the Mirage setup all in one and use the GT17 on the Matty manifold. I'll need to get myself an adjustable top steady I reckon!

I won't be doing anything car related tonight. I'm using the excuse that the paint on the block is curing.
However the reality is I want to go to the pub instead! *happy*

Sheffield South Yorkshire GB.

Hi John I have a set from a piston that detonated, they where new and they look ok to me, only done about 30 miles the engine detonated on the rolling road, Benross changed the whole piston for me you could ask him if they where still serviceable. Don't want any thing for them just thought if you where in a jam I'm at Sheffield. Alan
