Not really progress, but more of I dug the rear subframe and doors and stuff out the shed including my front end, and then I had to just put it on to make myself feel better about it. I can see it coming together now!

Not a lot gone on with the shell lately, but I've been doing my rear subframe! Got a couple holes to drill to add another couple of nuts and bolts to the towing eye (didn't trust just two so im adding a third) and then I think I can fit it up to the car, then onto the radius arms I think.... The joys.

Bit of an update, Both front and rear subframes are on now, Almost fully rebuilt one of my radius arms, and went to fit the nut to tighten up the bearings and that's where it all went pete tong. The brand new sub axle and nut obviously didn't see eye to eye and the threads in the nut and on the end of the axle past the split pin holes decided to chew up. I'm blaming the nut because it looked shit quality and had a rough finish around the edges, Anyway at imm I secured a new nut and it looks a tonne better than the old one, so im left to clean up the stub axle threads and try and fit the new nut again. Before IMM I sourced a 276 cam for the new engine, During IMM I picked up some AEM gauges off John, A Specialist components stainless LCB, A DSN oil prv cap, Shauna got me another bag of unf nuts and bolts, got the interior door locks I didn't think I was ever going to find, And also picked up an N/A HIF44 with a service kit for £50 off a member of another forum. The radius arm problem kinda peeved me off with the car a little and haven't touched it in a while, I'll try to get something else done on it this week. With the parts I'm still collecting I can start to see some areas of the car taking shape, such as dash arrangements and the exhaust system:

And one of my tidied up radius arm I did years ago but repainted with all the new shafts and bearing etc in, before the backplate was refitted and the stub axle went tits up.

Been a while again, new Job which means having cash has seen progress in the purchasing of many parts, engine spec for now has been settled on, gearbox has been massively uprated from original plans, now I don't have to use the car daily it's going lighter and faster with the N/A engine in it than i planned. Trying to achieve around 575kgs in weight, found and looking at big chunks of weight to be lost, with lots of help from Simon, and some from Matt with lighter parts, and chatting to Si has egged me on a bit to get cracking with dropping even more weight to get the most out of my car.
More to come soon I hope!

Matt, as it currently stands, and I'll start from the bottom up.

Gearbox/flywheel/clutch - Minispares Clubman SCCR gearset, minispares crosspin diff, 3.44 CWP, Guessworks windage tray, Good standard or swifty layshaft, JKD 1:1 SC transfer gears, MED ultralight flywheel, Orange diaphragm with AP race/rally plate.

Short engine - 1275 A series block bored to 73.5mm, good standard balanced crank, A+ rods, Centre main strap, Lightweight duplex timing gear, alloy timing backplate, Graham Russell Engineering 73.5mm cast pistons, piper 285 camshaft, unknown stage 3 head with mg metro sized valves and minispares 1.5:1 roller tip rockers, no distributor, no side mount fan, fenton trigger wheel and crank sensor bracket, CR around 10.5:1

Fuelling/cooling - Front mounted fiat cinq rad with slimline electric fan, megajolt lite ignition, mg metro inlet manifold, vizard modified hif44, maestro plenum (previously owned and modified by rich aka turbominivanman) with undecided air filter piped to just behind the grille, Specialist components stainless LCB with 2" playmini single box side exit stainless exhaust system.

I think that's about it, except for digital speedo, so no speedo cable, just a sensor, aem wideband and oil pressure gauges, dsn oil filter head with integral temp sensor bung, few other dsn parts, ARP head studs and rod bolts, bk450 gasket, Titanium bolts on order from Si, block and gearbox casing will be stress relieved/lightened where possible. Hoping for a number around the 100hp mark with a nice torque spread, trying to make the low end as nice as possible by not making the head ports too large etc

I'm not blaming you Si, it's just that I think TM disease is becoming terminal 😂

Thanks to Si and Matt, I now have mostly titanium fasteners for most of my car! Along with a bunch of K nuts. A lot of money there! 😶 But a lot of weight saved, with less chance of corrosion and higher strength.

Also picked up some Kad alloy rear hubs off Si, and Kad radius arms off John, if im to be serious about this weight saving, it has to be done right thevfirst time around where the harder things to get to are done first. Need to sort myself out some alloy front hubs and drive flanges and 7.9 alloy brake setup, then im pretty much sorted for subgrames, just waiting for DSN to release their new billet backplates to compliment the rest of the build. Wish somebody would make alloy rear brake cylinders!

What Fan are you using on your Cinq rad, do you have one already?

Looks a nice build. What would you be using it for? Might be tempted for a bigger cam and an increased comp ratio.

I picked up a cheap slimline one from japfest for it, 9" i think, covers it perfectly height wise. Pretty much a weekend toy, but it would be have to be capable of long journeys so I don't want to go too mad with the spec, preferring to keep some midrange over all out top end power. At some point the engine will be replaced with a turbocharged one, reusing the gearbox and ti fasteners etc. Possibly 7 port or something but that's quite a long way off.
