I've used a good standard loom as a base on mine and installed a new fuse box from Polevolt. Depending on what you are going to install wiring wise, could you not repair what you've got? I've pretty much soldered all joints and used heatshrink to seal

Hey Rob,

I probably can repair the one I have and use it as a basis, I am just starting to explore what I think I will need electrically on the car.........

I won't be adding many extra electrical items to be honest.

Has anyone got any do's and dont's for me if I try to repair this loom ? Also can anyone recommend adding anything extra to it or Removing anything from the standard wiring loom........ ?

Have a look at a mk1 wiring diagram, that is about as basic as they come. I removed about half my loom, soo many wires not needed. Dim dip relay/resistor thingy was a major one from what I remember.

The overall plan is to have a tidy wire free Engine bay and it nice and tidy behind the dash, well thats the plan

Well today I spent couple of hours just stripping other bits out from it, Wiper motor, Top and bottom Dash rail, all of the rear wiring loom, The heater, just odd bits really.

Hello Buddi,

Update is no works happened on Saturday, I had planned to strip out what's left of the front wiring loom and the speedo clock etc, but got caught up changing over a Headlamp unit on Mums Clio, then refitting my neighbours Land Rover door and realigning, just ran out of hours at the weekend unfortunately :(

Plans are before the weekend to get the loom out and clocks.......

Yea, I'll be back on track with things this week :)

I really want to make the engine bay as clear from any wires being in it or the fuse box etc as possible, i haven't looked into it to much, will have a browse through people's builds later to see if I can find how anyone went about redirecting the loom etc

But this is definitely something I would like to do if I am this far in on it, I will upload some pics of what I would like to achieve from engine bays I have seen.

Plan / Hope is to have an Engine bay as tidy as this when it comes to wiring, But i don't really have much concept of how much is involved yet.......

Its quite easy realy just run the loom on the inside of the bulk head and bring the wiring through at the back of the wiper motor and down the inner wing for everything on the front pannel.

I've gone through the inner wing below the eyeball vents on either side

I'm sure andy has bought a modular one and placed it below the bottom dash rail.
Passenger footwell would be a good idea, plenty of space and access to all the wiring from above.

Not so sure on passenger footwell, may get trodden on...

I am planning to have bare shell Saturday and clean off all the internal noise reduction padding etc and possibly even get a seam seal on the underside :)

Wiring loom out !





And what a PIG It was ! the plate that is in the middle of the bulkhead that the loom goes through, the screws where Bolloxed ! had to drill them out and Grrrr all sorts, any way got it all out in the end.

Didn't start to Seam Seal underside as it is bloody cold, I dont mind the cold but even with the Space heater on the metal was cold on the car so thought best to leave it for the time being.

Underside has had another descent coat of Seam Sealant, now for some spray on Stonechip underneath next.

Right, I am going to make use of the VAT Free offer at Machinemart tomorrow or Monday evening and get some Tetraschultz stonechip - Has anyone got any experience using this ? what I am after is what its surface covereage is actually like and how many i should buy to spray the underside of the Mini?
