Well.... I had an MOT appointment tonight, it failed though :(. Just for handbrake and near side rear foot brake. Pretty good result TBH, the car has 0 miles on it so nothing had bedded in yet. I did rebuild the rear brakes with new wheel cylinders but kept the shoes and drums. I put on some new superfins afterward but kept the original shoes, maybe old shoes new drums was part of the problem. Got a good reaction from the MOT guys though, he opened the bonnet and went "holy moly"!"

Thanks for the offer, that would make the trip better with some company. I'll let you know if I make any plans.

Shame about MOT, car is looking awesome though, very underrated from the outside, no wonder it surprised the tester

So I put some new shoes in the rear, drove up and down the road then adjusted them. Handbrake is much better but can't tell if the rear brakes are working. I gave everything a good bleed but seemed to be fine anyway. I am back up for MOT on Friday but thought I'd get the car to a mechanic to get the car on the brake machine to double check all is ok and adjust the headlights. Turns out the Mini was too low for the rollers so couldn't get the brakes tested. To top it off the mechanic let the engine idle for 15 minutes, the engine got HOT! So much so the engine got so tight it wouldn't turn over on the starter until it cooled. . Don't know what damage that's done, starts ok now but haven't driven it. It was a 20C+ day but I guess my cooling system needs some revision. Maybe with some miles the engine will loosen up too, was trying to avoid a boil over at this stage though!

Taz's mot tester did the same thing and the needle went off his duel gauge and into the oil pressure side!!! Fucking mot testers need watching i think

Thanks very much for the kind comments, I need all the positivity I can get at the moment! Having the car out of the driveway for the first time allowed me to get a good look at the paint. If you look you'll see the doors are nicely tiger striped and don't match the rest of the car. Also my drivers door keeps dropping dispite constant adjustment, I think the hinge panel is a bit weak. These are all things I will tackle after getting through the MOT I guess.

It didn't puke coolant and it wasn't boiling so I guess it's not the worst, let's just say the needle of the temp gauge explored some new territory. I didn't realise anything was wrong until it turned over really slow and didn't start, I assumed a flat battery. A jumper pack didn't help, I then checked the temp gauge then I just figured if it's cranking slow and it's really hot it might be tightening up with the heat. A brief cool down and it cranked a bit faster and started. I'm gonna pull the thermostat and fit a sleeve until I investigate further.

Few, after a bit of a thrash I have an MOT certificate! Don't know what happened with the rear brakes, I didn't seem to get much effort at the rear but it seemed to pass anyway. After a scoot about the MOT carpark I noticed only 3psi boost, a few actuator tweeks are in order I reckon for some proper boost!

Congrats mate! Shauna's rear brakes weren't great last mot but they still passed thankfully. Hopefully now they've had a year to settle in they'll perform much better next time round, can't get any worse anyway than last time

Sooo.... After a year on the road I did a total of 80 miles... Don't know where the time went, I wasn't happy with a few things on the car so didn't drive it too far but never got anything sorted. I did manage to fix the speedo after about 5 years of it being a bit part time. Turned out to be the gear spinning on the end of the shaft, was the wrong tooth count too so with a new gear in it works and is accurate too.



I drove it to work last week, all went well, got some serious fumes in the car so will check exhaust etc but I'm thinking there still a bit of blow by and I'm getting whiffs of crankcase vapour. That plus my centre binnacle isn't sealed to the bulkhead so it's a bit drafty.

I have a -31 Cossie type actuator with a T2, a half a hole preload only gets 8psi, still nippy enough but will have to double the boost and hoping to not need a bleed valve. I have an oil leak to fix and I did notice some vibrations on the way home will check that out. Hopefully nothing's falling off! So MOT next month then hopefully get some miles on it.

Not too much to report, I have everything how i want it only a few squeaks and rattles to sort out. I am profiling needles like mad but still have a huge lean off on acceleration. I will get there!

Anyway, so another year or two on, things are going fairly well. I did a local car show (!) but will have to sort out a Flickr account to host pics.

My megajolt died, I plugged in a new one and all is well so i just need to put my dash together again. Maybe over the winter I might give it a bit of a tear down and freshen up, but that might end up being another rebuild...

So has photobucket sorted itself out? I can see pictures again!
