Well I rebuilt the gearbox using another clubman gearset and new baulk rings, bearings etc. Also had the primary gear rebushed the drop gears were getting noisy. Managed to get it all in and ready late Thursday night to run at pod on Friday. The Renault club im in had hired it for the day.

The box was shifting lovely all day, I will check to see today if it has selected two gears but don't think it has.

Was that gearset brand new too Ron? If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

Ouch! I'd be tempted to send it back for them to get it analysed. You never know may have been a fault in the manufacture of the set. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

I don't think you'll get anywhere with that. These sets were designed for 150bhp, not 250bhp.

Well I have checked the box over, there is no way 2nd and 3rd can be selected together. If that was the case it would more likely be 2nd and 4th together by the way the selector works. 4th gear is fine.

I'd be inclined to agree with you Robert. A flaw in the material leading to very early failure as soon as the gears saw any kind of high loading.

Could the crack in the casing have come before the gears letting go? If the crack has let the two shafts slightly further apart then this will happen. Just like a broken double roller. What does the two big bearings and the 1st motion idler look like? Edited by Vegard on 4th Jul, 2011. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:
