can you guys show pics of how you purge, do you use two bottles, or do you have some sort of splitter and two regulators?

Just a tee piece in the gas line, then a valve to control the flow.

Bolt either one of these to the manifold flanges:

Need to get some high temperature hose though.

Use 1 bottle with two flow gauges off the regulator, 1 for the tig torch the other for the purge pipe. Pressure for the purge pipe is quite critical, I would use 8-10litres of flow for purging. Make sure the you leave a few tiny hose in the blanked end to allow the oxygen to get out. If you have an Argon gauge to put in the end of the pipe it needs to read 20.9

I tried an equivalent to technoweld and found it hard to get enough heat into an ali manifold that had 3mm thick runners. I only had an old blow torch to hand though.

It's essential to protect both sides of the weld. Otherwise the inside of the weld will look like shit as it isnt shielded like the top side.

Athough Grahams backside weld even without the purge looks neater than anything Ive ever welded with any amount of argon lol

I tried a mates tig out for the first time the other day. Does anyone else do their stainless welding on a sheet of aluminium as a heat sink? Worked a treat and got some really nice beads laid down. Adding the filler rod was a bit tricky though to get the hang of.

Other thing i noticed was how much slower it was than using a mig.

yeah it is slow going,

Ive never really got the hang of feeding the filler rod either (or writing!) if I do any more tigging i might invest on one of these,

That does look quite handy. I could imagine it would be a bit fiddley to use with gloves on though. *oh well*

Ive got the R-tech TIG and its been brilliant and I can't fault their customer service either.

If I was you I'd go and speak to R-tech, they did me a very good deal on a welder with lots of free consumables/filler rods...which soon add up!

That welder on ebay with the digital display could be a pain to make adjustments with gloves on, you can't beat a good old potentiometer to turn. *wink*
