So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Your motor sounds sweet, good luck with the rest of it.

Life is always a matter of opinion and quite frankly, no ones opinion really matters.

cheers guys. This has given me a huge boost of enthusiasm to get the car completed.

The lst of bits still to complete, however I seem to find that each time I get any time on the car, I make significant leaps forward now. Next step is to get the clutch sorted so I can get it driving and check the box etc is operating correctly.

Then it will be off to the painter to get a few bits fixed and a final polish. I'll need to borrow the trailer to move it so it is likely to be the same time I get the clubby back from the welder in the next couple of weeks.

Watch this space....

well, time has not been on my side with other commitments etc, however had a pretty good weekend;

started out with a box arriving with this inside

all went together well and git everything under the bonnet pretty much back together.

ended up with this

Had a bit of an issue getting it running on all cylinders; turned out plug 2 was fouled up so a quick clean and all was good again - albeit not so sweet as it was when I first fired her up. I'll no doubt need to do some fettling.

After all that, it was time to take the car outside for the first time since it was painted back in 2007 and the first drive since 1999!

I've still got a fair few bits to deal with before a) MOT, and b) MITP, but, major mechanical failure aside, it doesn't look like I need to buy some new running shoes.

Car is also booked back in at the painter to get a few bits and pieces sorted while I'm away on holiday. Got to say, I'm seriously considering pulling it all apart again though as a) its been painted 5 years now and showing a few signs I'm not happy with, b) there are a few bits I'd like to change, and c) its nothing like Andy's

I'd agree, get it road legal and enjoy what's left of the summer. the car looks great though, must be good to see it moving after all that time!

cheers guys; I've just spoken to the MOT man; it is going to go straight to the MOT station from the paint shop so it should be MOT'd by the end of July. Taxed from Aug. Would have liked a bit more time on the road before MITP but time is not on my side.

as for the paint, I've got 2 other projects sitting in the side lines so a full strip and re-paint will be a few years off

well a bit more progress; I've decided to buck the trend of making things lighter and add a bit of weight.

to be honest, the car was never going to be a racer - I've got the metro for those duties now, so its getting a few luxuries including a stereo install. Having said that, after the first drive last weekend and remembering how loud the straight cut drops and gearbox are, this may be a total waste of time!

plans for the weekend are to fit up the handbrake, sort the wiring route for the AFR gauge, fit all the mirrors, wheel arches, door panels, passenger seat, fit grille and finally number plates - I'll see how successful I'll be with that in my allotted time

You can always switch to helical drops at a later data Rob. Looks good.

to be honest John, I've been thinking of swapping back to helical for the box and drops and using the straight cut stuff in the metro

what is it with simply jobs? Great plans to strike a dozen things of the 'stuff to do' list and end up getting one done and adding another 2 to the list!

So the plan is to bring the car down to MITP. I've now got less that 2 weeks and the car is going to the painter next weekend for a bit of a polish and to tidy up a few bits.

So, didn't get loads done at the weekend. The radio is now fitted however a school boy error on my part in that the headunit is wired to 2nd stage of the ignition - not ideal but it will do for now. Door panels went on ok and I'm relatively happy with them however the vinyl I've used is pretty soft and damages quite easily so I can see them being re-trimmed again later.

What did come to my attention while I was re-fitting the battery was that I'll need to take the tank out again to re-fit the arch again as I don't think I'll get away with using rivnuts.

So for MITP, I ideally need to sort the following;

1) fit interior and exterior mirrors
2) grille and surrounds
3) headlamp surrounds
4) fit washers and run pipe to rear of car (washer bottle is now re-located in boot)
5) fit aerial
6) line back seat base
7) make up carpet
8) fit correct steering wheel
9) fit seat belts
10) fit passenger seat
11) fit badges
12) run wires for AFR
13) fix leaking heater matrix
14) fit arches
15) investigate slow puncture
16) re-fit rear screen locking rubber
17) work out better route for air filter
18) get megajolt to talk to laptop
19) make up 1/4 trim panels

mmmm; list doesn't look too bad but I just know It'll be down to the wire

certainly won't be racing anyway

Are we going for a drunken stumble up the strip as neither of our cars will be making it up the 1/4?
