Lake District

Got to York just before 3, no beetles in sight, about 3 Minis and a hanfull of other stuff. A poor turnout indeed. *oh well*
The weather was fine and the track almost completely dry, got caught in a blizzard on the way home but otherwise fine most of the day.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Well made it to York, apart from being F'ing cold it turned out nice. Only a couple of snow showers.

My day didnt go so well, wetted the plugs as it came off the trailer and spent ages drying them out.

First run : 16.01 @ 95mph, bogged down and missed a bit off the line, i assume due to the wet plugs

Second Run 14.7 @ 89mph, really cooked it off the start as i didnt want it to bog down like the time before!

Third Run, well never made it to the start line, the fooking fuel pump packed in on me! thats one a meeting at the minute!!!

After disecting, the magnet had broken up and jammed the amature. to be honest, i'm thinking this is my stupid fault as i never got to fasten it down after chaging it at pod in the pit lane, then the return road from York is a bit rough.

Tried pulling it apart but it didnt have it, got it spinning up but it wouldnt pump fuel.

Oh well, plenty of bits to do, to be honest make good all the jobs i bodged in the past!

Carl was there with The Don and WilH, i'll let them fill you in on how they went.

Well what can I say. I had an offer to drive the DON and there was no way I was going to refuse, cheers Carl.

The car ran spotlessly and is an amazing machine, and I can only give respect to Tom for the times that he has run as I got nowhere close.

My main problem was gear selection, I've never use a dog box and just couldn't get the hang of it; the other problem was no traction in the first two gears. I managed six runs I think, and got all the gears right once. My best time was a 13.5 @ 110.5 mph.

I would describe driving the car as a truly terrifying experience, never have I had to concentrate so much going in a straight line. Don't get me wrong though, the car drove well, no torque steer at all and no wanting to wander about. But the acceleration in 4th was unbelievable, and at 110mph with a 20+mph cross wind and a car that weighs bollock all, it got a bit hairy at times.

With Tom at the wheel and a bit more grip (which I know is coming) this car will beat it's last years times.

Thanks again Carl.

Glad you had some fun in it Wil, its interesting to hear someone elses views on it, as I'm "kind of" used to it and what it does.
As you say grip is an issue at present, I'm looking forward to some better tyres at some point and see what it can really do.

I was there on Sunday running 14's in the wet fairly happy but there wasnt a beetle on the track all day.
A bit of snow dosnt frighten us Scottish lads and I hadnt washed the car since last year so no problem there.
Plenty of runns could be had as there wernt many cars especialy minis with turbos not one to be seen and loads of you lads live nearby but I may see you next year.
