Just a thought. Is that a mild steel washer between the head of the bolt and hardened steel washers???

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Just a thought, i'm no expert in clutches.

If the spring is set flat it will have to go past flat to release. Can it do that? Will it come back again?

me neither axel , but APPARENTLY thats how one sets them , this way you get the least pedal pressure ,and a rising rate of grip as it wears , then its drops to where it is now ,so one gets a reasonable window of usage . i graphed out the plate on a press and this is how it seems to work .
thanks fab for the comment
appreciate it .

any chance of maybe making a "how to" for peeps who wouldn't mind copying?

I took this pic back when this thread was "developing" but totally forgot about it till today when i found it on my fone. sadly cant remember any details now :( but this clutch either came out a skyline or a pulsar, was a multiple late item but what i noticed soon as i seen it was the pressure plate spring things!

did a bit of testing on this last week , pressure to release twin spring plate on thrust bearing was 350 lb , pressure on a grey is 900lbs , taking into account the ratio on the long arm and the short arm actuation lever from the slave ,that worked out to around 168 lb slave pressure for the grey ,and 144 lb slave for the rts(roberts twin spring!!*laughing*)
..
so all in all it looks viable .oh and i reckon clamping pressure at 1300 to 1400 lb minimum!!

oh thanks for the pic evo !

insertion of assembly.. bolted up and torqued down , so far so good ,,rain stopped play .my old clutch was slipping and it was time to get more grip ,time will tell if it works or is a disaster .

This will be interesting. I'd really like to pop over when your running if you don't mind. I'm always passing through Oxfordshire.

Really interesting this and would love to see how well it works first hand.

well its all together ,it cleared the wok ,and revs fine ,big suprise is pedal pressure .........very little difference to the other clutch !!!!!!!!!!
whoop de dooo
*happy* *happy*
i used the valve spring pressure measuring tool and it seems to be about 70 lbs pedal pressure instead of 50 lbs .but its not really noticeable on your foot .
so drove it back and forwards and no probs with gear slection ,could even get reverse while going forward ,so after lunch ill put the bonnet on and go out in it . *surprised*

im guessing if i say 130 but it feels like that ,but until its on a rr i wont know .i know it runs 88 in the quarter and about 15.5 on a 2.5 sec 60 ft ,and 0 to 60 just under 7 seconds .. and it weighs 1780lbs with that performance so that seems to tie in with avon performance of cars like alex 's at 142 bhp with a bit slower terminal on mine .

incidentally i weighed the new assembly and the pressure plate and the flywheel together weighed 21.lbs thats with the back of the flywheel machined flat.
