would you feel right with composite sills on your mini ?
I've used the word composite not carbon fibre , the actual F1 cockpits are a laminate of carbon fibre and aramids such as kelvler , dyneema and hybrid clothes - ensuring stress and strain strength . you'd have to bond it with structural bonding adhesive 'not panel bonding adhesive' such as 'm3 structural' I've toyed with the idea in my head it just doesn't feel right ? On par with dating a 16 year old girl it's ok but not ok and feels wrong but might feel right lmao ! 😂🙃

Haha I wouldn't honest 'the sill part' um what aramids are being used then as carbon fibre alone is as wank as a sheet of glass ... the nurd in me knows that 's-glass' and carbon fibre laminated is fucking stronger than a piece of supermans hair.

If your nurdy like me s-glass was desgined for miltery use here's a chart of its characteristics 'with Kevlar composite' out performing carbon 😉

Oh and just try and find dater on a carbon and s-glass composite - google pauses with an air of suspicion and will return just 5 pics of random shit 😳

The best hybrid cloth is carbon with Kevlar? Haha ! well at least avaible to the public .. but s-glass as a single cloth is unbeatable

Google contains little data on composite laminates as the combinations of materials used to create a composite structure is a closely guarded secret by engineering manufacturers. We can combine basic data and guesstimate as laymen's - with this in mind my own opinion 'guesstimate' based on my limited experience working with composites is ''s-glass / carbon laminate'' is very , very robust - when we did the scooby bonnet we laminated a strip to test , we couldn't break it for love no money - we resorted to placing it between to house bricks and dropping a 20 kg weight disk on it 'edge ways' the fucker bounced off 😂 It went laddish extreme to throwing the disk onto it from height nothing apart from the edge of the brick chipping off and the discovery I'd made my 20kg a scruffy mess lmao !

i don't know what he got so upset about ? lol I mentioned hybrid cloth in my opening post and as he mentioned he hadn't heard of Kevlar or dyneema being used for decades 🤔 I asked what is being used instead ? dyneema is simply a brand name of a aramid fibre cloth the same goes for Kevlar which is the brand name for aramid cloth made by DuPont. 💁‍♂️ I'm by no means an expert on the subject hence my polite question 'what's being used instead ? Carbon fibre is a brilliant material for rigidness 'tensile' strength but has very low stress strength - kinda like hardened steel that has been overly tempered ... it's rock hard rigid but tap it on something hard and it snaps - this describes carbon fibre well quite well 👌 So to make a strong composite you need to combine rigidiness 'carbon' with flex that reforms' aramid fibre . I find composites interesting as I spent a brief time working in the industry . So I'd be interested to hear about said materials not being used for decades ? when I ordered my composites last week , nothing much had changed in the industry apart from the resins which have advanced ten fold 'polymers' just for you Steve. Anyway back on subject about these 16 yr old girls .. 😂 On a serious note I will be replacing my door skins with a composite material - safety 👌 Composite door skins will be the last things to give in on a mini 😂 But more fucking rot 👊 I'll bond them with m3 panel adhesive , it's uk insurance approved for attaching wings etc - under insurance company testing it performs on par with oem welding and out performs weld repairs. It capable of bonding composites to metal . I'm gonna get round to spot drilling the wings off and doing the wings to 😂👌 ill of course report back to Steve as per the request 👍☺️

🤔 I reckon I have got the bottle to brave composite sills - once I finish this supercharger project off I'll put it on my next thing to do list on the car ... it's strong than a flimsy steel sill , the only thing that pickles me and I can't adjust to is not welding ! but the structural m3 is used for lorry chassis during manufacturing - 'what times we live in people' 😂

If anyone has now learned about S-glass , you will be a total girl if you get anything mounded for your car in carbon 😂 It's half the price and much stronger ! 👌

Haha did he ? well then I shall apologise 👌 i don't know fuck all about f1 however I was in engineering back in day working with composites - but nothing flash 😂 We did street lights full carbon cloth laminated with all the crap I was rambling about and we also did foot bridges !
