I've heard a rumour that a032r tyres are going to be stamped 'not for highway use' from 2016.

Has anyone else heard this or is this just tales down the local sprint track?

I think it's got something to do with a new EU regulation about about tyre noise that will basically outlaw most semi slick track day tyres.

I was at Mini Spares London a couple months ago and they had mass's of A032-R's and A048-R's as they said the new ones would not have a E mark on them.

I think its to do with fuel economy too as well as noise. Cars that use these kind of tyres probably do a maximum of 3000 miles a year. There are already mutterings about up coming changes to the blue book relating to tyres that will affect most of the 'peformance' tyres. Its long overdue we told the EU where to go.

I wouldn't give a toss either were it not for the insurance implication of running 'illegal' tyes (despite the fact the make up, construction and every single detail is the same)

All the new stock A048's are no longer road legal, they were going to leave the 10" A032R alone but think they are going the same way... For people running 13" wheels the new Nankang NS2R will become very popular.

From all reports, the "soft" Nankangs are still harder than the likes of a medium 888

Time for a protest more like.

What I don't understand is how a 165 tyre can be clobbered by the same noise and emissions regs, yet a 265 that is f'ing loud fitted to most modern cars with low profile tyres is allowed. they're should be an overall drive by noise limit, or limit to rolling resistance.

It pisses me off beyound all belief the extent to the double standards they impose.

Road going classes for sprint and hillclimb will get hit. Once the MSA removes 1b tyres from the permitted tyres list I guess all the class records set with decent rubber will be null and void.

Had a quick look the other day at the 1a list and its a choice of Maxxis, Nangkang, Dunlop or Yoko for my size.

I certainly can't hear my tyres over everything else going on in my mini. I don't know what the big deal is I bet half the caterhams that run them in larger sizes can't hear them over the open cockpit
