I've got a bit fed up with the clubman and have been fancying another weldathon and a bit of an engineering challenge, so...

Cash is tight at the moment since we had a sprog and Lisa went part time, meaning an A series is out of the question. So £10 later:

£25 for the box and a few cutting disks later it's in.

The shell has rust in all the usual places, but isn't too bad. The shell and the majority of panels to sort it stand me at £300.

I've made a start on the front end today.

I plan to have a one piece front hinged from the inner wings so that it goes up and over the screen.

The frame will be mini based and the car will run 10" wheels. The turbo will be over the box with the exhaust run down the back of the engine. This should leave some room at the front for the cooling system and intercooler.

I don't work quickly, so it will be a fair while in the making. Hoping to get the shell sorted over the winter, but that's dependant on time which is almost as rare as spare money these days...

I haven't thought far enough ahead for what I will actually use it for, it's not like it's likely to be finished this decade...

1800 K. Was thinking 1400, but I couldn't turn it down for a tenner.

I can't work to that kind of pressure Brett.

The only bit I'm short is the drive shafts. Need a set for a PG1 box if you have spare.

Thanks. The starter is at the top rear of the box on a PG1. At the front on the R56.

I don't reckon much to the subframe andy, first pothole you hit and that engine's gonna fall out, you need a serious reality check my friend! It might even have woodworm. ...

The structural ratchet strap is just out of site.

Potholes? They will have invented a road surface not prone to falling apart the third time it's driven over by the time I've finished this.

Nice... I think the k series is underused.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

I would agree.

So much seems to be going for the K series conversions.

I've had a day off work and managed to get a few hours to myself, so went down the scrappers and got some A4 boot hinges.

The end result:

Obviously they are too low at the moment, but it proves the concept at least.

Are your audi hinges going to bolt straight to the steel front, do you think it'd be rigid enough? On mine I'm bolting some box steel and then to the front, just for extra rigidity... do you think its overkill??

My front will be 1 piece with reinforcement on the rear of the bonnet. I'll be adding some extra metal to the wings to mount the hinges to. Should be ok.
