Well after a convincing for sale thread and looking like it was going to sell, I was almost ready to start on the big up again!
But I thought seeing as I had all the parts pretty much to complete it I may as well have pulled my finger out and got on with the bloody thing
I probably would have only ended up regretting it!
Chances are that within a few months or so it will be Turbo depending on how I enjoy it
Although that said I ticket for his first drive around the block and with a 29 final drive and the stray cat box I didn't manage to get it out of second gear and being damp it was a bit lively to say the least!!
It is extremely light and unfortunately I managed to spinet coming back into the yard!
I wasn't going fast but for some reason the backend just came around in front of me and I did a 180!!

May be to do with the fact it was extremely damp and also I don't have a compensative valve on just yet,

I will try and update this as I go along but to start with today, I have been trying to sort the boot lid out where as the original one I had for it was just a cut down and re-cornered and folded boot lid
I wasn't very keen on this as the numberplate sat pretty much on the hinge panel and looked a bit shit!!!

So it started out like this a de framed mk3 skin


The I cut the old piece out


Along with an inch stripe as I wanted to raise the new peice



Then I cut Off the lower section of the other boot


Bolted it in place then marked out the old section to be removed and obviously cut it away



Once that was all welded and I then at out the centre section of the donor boot, Again I wanted to shorten the area in which the numberplate sits but still looking kind of original with the top and bottom sections standard.


Once there was all cut the size I tacked it all altogether, And then gradually I will did it all together


I then spent the next hour or so trying to grind the welds down


Just made some filler and it will be good to go although I have considered putting the frame back on the inside.
But that is a mission for another day

That boot lid is going to need a whole pot of body filler

How the heckers like will a bonnet go on? the motor looks like its up a fair bit above the bonnet line? Still looks cool as fuc# though

looks brilliant and its great to break through I cant be arsed and get some motivation again... been there..

interesting to see a mini with a chop.. ive only seen a few chopped minis
i do like some of the proper old school chops on cars..
perhaps ill like it more with a coat of jam? ether way i like it because its more than just a mini !!

I've never been so close to buying a car before and not actually done it. Looks amazing fun, it's a shame my girlfriend veto'd this and I ended up with a clio 182 instead but I'll enjoy this thread.

Me and Rubicon went for a drive Saturday to try and get it out of second which was unsuccessful due to the crazy FD.
It was eventful, i lost count of the amount of times i got the double thumbs up from him in front of me. It sounds brilliant with those bike carbs, almost like a bike!

I managed to grab afew photos which show how we bodged the bonnet on (He was going to drive without one)

So, did the rest of the body need as much plod as that bootlid does? LOL

I hope you can find a better way to do the bonnet because it looks ace otherwise!

The help and the great pics! I will do Something about the bonnet but the main problem is the rock, I have fought about having the rocker cover Whole welded up and maybe using the distributor how to feel the oil up?
Maybe then you can go down a couple more inches
Although at the moment I'm really not too fussed....

easiest thing would probably be to adapt the transfer housing vent like has been done on the bimmer K head conversions.

I've seen a sprint where the oil filler was blanked off and then moved to the side, then the bonnet had a small bulge to clear the carb. Might be an idea?
