Hi all been fafffing about with this for some time and lurking on here a fair bit.

I got it in December 2010 and stripped my other mini in December 2011 for parts to build this (although I've only used the engine/suspension). So been working on it for 2 years. Another slow build!

Moving on from this.... http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=476769 I've started a build thread. I won't bother back dating it but just photo bomb it and then keep it updated.

For exhaust clearnace

wilwood pedal setup. Need to tie this into the cage as it flexes the shell!

Bulge cut back and welded for top arm clearance.

MK1 column rebuilt

Most recently i've tubbed both the rear arches and taken off the hose bit on the rear arm to get it down quite low. There's no coilovers in this picture as the gaz ones i have don't go anywhere near this height. Getting some protechs to drop it down to near this height probably have the tyre under and inch from the arch. Also done a lot of bodywork. Shell was fubar'd crazing wise.

If it sits anything like it does in the last pic when its built that will look fantastic! Should be light too??

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

nice work and coming along.

now i do like the low stance but it always seems to compromise the drive shaft angles at the front unless you raise the engine; not really an option in a minus - or am I talking total bollox?

Won't be quite that low, but low enough *wink*. Yea i'm aiming for around 500kg. I need to get some more of the front end.

I said that, once haha. They are good, just make sure you buy a decent one. Would never have bought this shell if i knew anything about grp before i started.

Should be ok at this height. Might get some balljoint droppers though. Yea raising the engine would be an issue normally but i have a differnet bonnet that should help somewhat if i wanted to!

Protech rear coilovers turned up recently. I got them from protech themselves, shortest shock at 12" with a 7" 125lb spring.

Nice bit of kit, would have expected some information with them though. No idea which way the damping adjust goes. Obviously will be able to work it out, just nice if they came with some info!

Around 2 inches shorter over the lowered gaz one's. Which should get my car to a good height. If not i'll have to move the turret up.

For those interested, i weighed them both. Very good weight saving here! The gaz was to heavy for the scales (Scales only take 2300g), i would say they are 2400g each (lifted it slightly on the scales).

And the protech.....

Thats a 2kg saving. Although obviously I've saved a lot from the shock/springs being smaller in general.

New wheels. Love them. Thanks Carl.

Clearance is tight, but they clear which is the main thing!

Need to move the rear beam over. The beam is straight in the shell but the wheels sit about 4mm different each side. Seem's to be a common problem with minus shells!

They are 8.2".

Bit of an odd one. Apparently they sold a few sets in japan.

Bit more done yesterday.

Tubbing the minus arches is different to a normal mini as the rear quarter is joined to the inner arch higher up so i had just cut it up to this point both sides. I've now filled both sides with fibre filler as where it joins was like a big 'M' i've filled like the two ^ bits under the M (If thats makes any sense!). One side is smoothed off and done the other is still curing.

I then moved in the garage as it started raining. Did one of the jobs i've been avoiding and trimmed all the bonnet so it sits nicely. I just need to decide what to use in each corner to fix it. Also cut the mk3 front bit off.

Gaps are really good, which made me happy :).

I've been doing more bodywork bits to. Just fibrefilling low areas etc.

Not kept this updated very well! Its coming on slowly.

Tried wheels on.

Built up handbrake. Didn't do a weight comparison.

Bought some cosmic arches, failed! Body is to low so they won't sit against it right.

Subframe finished up, took some idea's off here. I only took 600g off it though.

I had some suspension issues

Which were resolved with some help of Carl.

Saved 3.5kg in total switching to these! Me and a friend modified the normal brackets so they sat further out which added some extra weight which i included in that figure. I was not happy with them though hence the force racing arms.

Got the outside in primer.

Then put it up on its side.

for stonechip....

I used 4.5L of gravitex to do the whole underside. One coat accross the whole thing and then a few extra coats in the areas that will get the most stone damage.

Thats where i'm up to now.

Carb and manifold.

I've used a metro manifold which i cut the water heated section out and used the yellow bible to get more flow. The carbs a 44 which has again had vizard mods done.

I also worked out along with some other minus owners help that moving the subframe over was not a good idea and its the shell molding that is poor!

As can be seen with these pictures against the tread.

I've bought some Carbon miglia arches which i will cut to suit each side. I could build out each side but i decided against it.

Thanks chaps.

Yea for sure, makes some lovely stuff. Great way to trim the weight down to. Although an expensive way!

Nice one mate! Cant wait to see it finished.

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

Got some paint and a new mask.

body colour on the underside.

Looks quite grey in the picture but its a variation of Smoke Grey and is quite blue.

I did not use the BMC colour code of BU.15 i used a british standard colour code of BS381 692. I used this as basically it was a lot cheaper!

BU.15 from my local paint shop was about £250 for 5L whereas i got this for £60 from... http://auto-paint.co.uk/carpaint/index.php...d&productId=241

It is obviously cheaper for a reason although It seems to have gone on nicely though with only a few runs. Which are my fault as it was my first go at putting proper colour on.

Back the right way up.

Tried my wheels and arches on for some inspiration. Need to cut the arches.
