Whats in the tank on the passenger do you think? I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

It's a 998 (overbored 970) with a 16v BMW head and a turbo.

They got to 138.7mph, not over a timed mile, therefore not eligible to break the record... yet... “A turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.” - Jeremy Clarkson |

lol 131 is what i got at brunters that day. Like Stevie says it should be very possible, I didn't realise it was a turbo 16v, not so impossive as not a 5 porter :( Best 1/4 mile 13.2 seconds @116 mph

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

But the impressive this surely is these guys have taken this thing to the salt flats and are giving it a go! Sub 1 litre remember! I think it's great! And yeah they should smash the record if they have as much power as they claim! I hope they do it. Speeding is like masturbating, everyone does it, but not all of us film it and put it on the internet

i have been following this as much as i can but i dont understand the difficulty there having reaching there target speed? maybe i vastly underestimate the difficulty's in this but there currently only 20 ish mph over the fastest ive had my mini and it only stopped there on the limiter

I think that their claims about bhp are maybe a little high. The main issue is holding the speed for a mile, rather than peaking and then backing off. Also, because of the temp and altitude, the BHP they had will have evaporated somewhat.

It would need to be a big runway. The salt flats are timed over a mile marker before which the vehicles aim is to already be at peak velocity and then turn round and do it again and average the speed. As wil h said its the maintaining the speed and at elevated altitude and also on salt I'm sure it's not an easy task or the Americans would of beaten it already.

How come they haven't modified it to reduce drag very much, surely they could reduce it quite a lot just by using tape and stuff to smooth over stuff etc

i was thinking it would have been about the only good reason to de seam a mini, they still have seams, do you think the salt creates more drag than tamac too? Speeding is like masturbating, everyone does it, but not all of us film it and put it on the internet

As for the comments on drag. They have made decent attempts. No arches, all the underside is smooth. They can't sprint it or do other changes because of the class rules I think, has to be a producrion body. I agree some taping could help. But the reality is that they are measures you take when you are desperate, and they're not there yet. Edited by wil_h on 15th Aug, 2012. Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph
