What is the best stone guard around, I what it to dry hard, also if it comes Aerosol that would be better as I dont have a spray gun.

Thanks simon.

Sorry but the aerosol stuff is garbage. No build/thickness to it.

Proper gear and use a proper underseal / shultz gun to apply it.

Graviguard is what I use but there are plenty out there similar.

I used this make

As Tom says, you need a shultz gun, not a spraygun - it screws direct to the top of the containers, whichever make you use, the thread is standard. I think he sells them too, if not they are easy enough to find.

Use a waterbase stonechip as it'll dry hard and can be overpainted. Solvent base usually stays flexible and any paint on top of it will crack

I seriously doubt it!

I use the Roberlo stuff as thats what my local supplier sells. Its not water based and it sets hard. well it sets hard enough to sand back.

I generally apply it thick in one coat which gives the rippled texture you see on modern vehicles. I take the top off of it with a light rub down with wet and dry, prime it, then top coat.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I used gravitex In the driver and passenger footwells, like sprockets it set hard so rubbed it back and painted.

My Schultz gun was from machine mart and cost about £15.

Well, yes and no :) - it dries hard enough you can flat it back if you want (but the textured finish is what they intended, like most OEM products) but it is soft enough to be "bouncy" for the stones to not chip it.

Just trying to work out whether it's worth me doing the seam sealer and stone chip myself or let the paint shop do it.

Can you get etch primer in something i can paint with at home? Water based or celly etc

I'd prime first before seam sealer to make sure everything is well sealed. I'd just use 2pack with a good mask at home

I thought about this before and considered running the mask from a separate borrowed compressor so i could maintain a regulated output for the painting

And make sure your compressor inlet is ducted to outside your garage/workshop or you defeat the point of the mask (and yes, they use a lot of air.....)
