Noice, now how are you going to split them down small enough to burn?

We've got three trees that need to come down Rob if you want some more free wood. 2 of them are biggys too.

EDIT: 4 actually, but one is only a cherry tree...

Have you turbocharged your chainsaw yet robert?

It's the lengthwise split that always challenges us.

Need to design a Mini powered log splitter.

if you lived within 20 miles andy id be round there like a shot ,blimmen cherry ,thats some hard wood ,those in the pic that are small are some sort of fruit wood i think,, took longer to go through that the humungous bits .

nope not turbocharged the chainsaw ,it seems pokey enough ,specially since its a 1970' jonsered 65cc 162 i think blimmen heavy though after a while .

I've just ordered a new chain for my chainsaw, I'm looking forward to fitting it as I cut down a small conifer the other day and would have been faster with a junior hacksaw!

hmm i just sit it on its base and hit it with a splitting hammer , a bit like a sledge hammer but with a wedged blade on one side .also you can use a few wedges driven into the side of it in a line .that'll be easyier ,just more time consuming .

The cherry tree is only little and it's properly dead, won't take much chopping down. The other two have 120ish years growth on them, but they are knocking my wall down so will have to go... Also got a giant conifer leaning on my shed. horrible things.

My pile for the winter,

Only softwood so about half the CV of hardwood and a bit more ash but cheap :)

One of my neigbours gets it from a roof truss manufacturing company down in Ipswich - it's all the offcuts that they would have to pay an environmental charge to dispose of (or get prosecuted if they burnt it).

So I just pay the cost of my neighbour's diesel.

I think I'm the only one in the village anal enough to stack it neatly though, have you ever done a jigsaw puzzle with all the angles involved in roof trusses ???

No cutting involved if you can do a jigsaw :)

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

Robert check out hot saws on YouTube, I bet they will be up your street. Chainsaws with tuned pipes etc. My bro has been collecting the parts to put one together as he cuts trees for his job.

Rod, out of interest, has the timber been treated? I've always been a little concerned with burning treated timber in 'confined' spaces ie indoors in an open fire

I'd have thought it would be quite easy to build a splitter out of a bottle jack, an axe head and some 2" steel box.

Rob, It's treated but myself (and my neighbour's) fires are enclosed multi-burners, not open fires....

Piped straight up through the chimney.

So we just destroy the ozone layer and not ourselves :)
