Well I bought this shell of a Friend who raced it in 2008 unfortantly it was involved in a crash near the end of that year which pushed him out of the racing sceen. The shell has had a lot of work done to it such as a weber box fitted it has had the arches tubbed and all excess panels cut out. The only damage done to the car in the crash was the floor pan where the subframe mounts was bent inwards and the fiberglass front end was a right off. I started work on it this week
to date I have fitted A flat alloy boot floor:

I fitted a rear wheel arch cross brace:

I fabriciated and fitted A suport for the floor around the subby mount:

I have dry built the cage into the car to try and get as much of the drilling done befour I Paint the shell:

next weeks plan is to make a few bolt in mounts around the car to tie the shell into the cage better. I have also started building the in boot ARB. I am trying to have the car dry built befour the end of the month so I am ready to Paint next Month.

Way way to many Phil my Mk1 has been put into dry storage for a year untill I get time/money to do it properly. The devlopment race car is also in the same storage, this is just a quick and dirty build to give me some thing to have fun on the track with over the coming summer :).

This seems very interesting, will you turbocharge a 1480cc?
You can acheive 150/155bhp with a 310ºcam and a good head from an aspirated engine. You will just need the right setup.

The 1480 will be one of my full race 1480s running kawasaki ZR pistons, a farndon full steel 86mm crank, Turbo Phil full race NA head, 320 Cam, and in house exhaust and inlet manifold all sucking trough a weber 48 and all sparked off by our in house ignition system, it will be running trough a Jack night dog box and a tranx limo. Should have around 130 at the wheels if every thing works out right.

I seriously doubt it!

Ya Paul I just finished a commission, 1460 with one and I have to say I was total amazed how well it did we made about 7% more over 6000rpm and only shifted our base line up about 300 rpm full trottle with the maped ignition came in at 3200 insted of 2900 on the swifty 310.

Exelent spec, i'm building a AKM 7-port, drilled to 45mm with 37.7int/31exh valves, 1460cc all steel full race with 45 webers DCOE 152G, but i go for 310º hope i can drive it on road to.
Also a Clubman, mine is a 1275GT.

Cheers mate, let us updated...

Sounds good, look forward to seeing the engine built, no doubt that the engine will pull 130 if not more from what i've heard the 320 is capable of, especially a 1480. good luck.

Thanks Rich, Ya I started doing that to our racers shortly after the crash that was the first demise of this car, it adds a hell of a lot of strength to the steering and sub-frame mounts really helps with turn in under acceleration.

P.s. Here is this Evenings progress, I have been looking around for alloy solid rear sub-frame mounts for a wile and all I have found is the DNS classic ones but the still use a standard or up rated bushing. So I decided to knock these up this evening :) I’m really happy with them for 3 hours work !

Nice. Would it not be easier to make some solid bushes to insert into the DSN brackets?

well I supose it would with it just being a simple turning excersise but that would involve buying some bar stock and a set of the DNS brackets where as I had a piece of 25mm x500mmx500mm flat plate knocking around the workshop so I reconed why not *happy*

Well I made a little bit of progress last night, I got the Subframe rust free and a few coats of stone chip.

I also managed to get the old seat mount cut out and the welds cleaned up,
