Orange vs Grey diaphragm

I've currently got an orange diaphragm, AP fast road/race clutch and ultralight flywheel. Someone has advised I might need a grey diaphragm instead. I'm not too clever when it comes to clutches, will I be able to get away with my orange or do I need to go grey?

1380 block
Eaton M45 supercharger blow through
Stage 4 head
SC box with SC drops and X pin

You will get loads of people saying you need a grey, however, I say go with the orange as you already have it, if it does slip then go for the grey,

wintersurfer is putting about 150 hp through my old orange plate, and i reckon i put similar through it on occasion.

Go grey, it's not that heavy and you know it won't slip for the power you will make... Last thing you want is a slipping clutch, it makes the car so shit to drive.

Well I'm looking to make around 150bhp. I've been told I'll probably struggle with a grey as I'm only ahem 5ft 2

TBH I don't notice the grey when I move between the van and other normal cars

the clutch doesn't care much about HP, it's torque that makes it slip. but i don't know how much they can handle.
and you have to consider what type of friction material will be used

5ft 2.. Can you sit upright in a mini without hitting your head?

I'm predicted quite a high torque figure, that's why my choice of clutch was questioned. To be fair I had the clutch before i decided to go supercharged but I'd rather not have to take it apart again if it does slip with the orange.

And yes, I can sit upright without banging my head, I just have to have brackets to shift my buckets forward and a steering drop bracket so I can see over the wheel

Well, I have taken peoples advice and gone for a grey diaphragm. Simon is just swapping my orange for a grey :)

I reckon the van's grey is about on its limit at the minute.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

The grey wouldn't handle anything above 15psi when I first fitted one, even with the correct lug heights. Though it does seem fine for most folks.
Been running the double grey for a few years now.

just a single grey on mine with 200 ft/lb and the correct lug heights.

only reason it was slipping at the RR day was because of the bits of starter motor that had fucked everything inside there.

yep. Mine is an orange and i do get a little slip on my blow through setup. A bit annoying but i just off of the gas and back on and its sorted, at the mo! Am i right in thinking that a little slip might be a bit more forgiving on stressed parts?

orange, 162 lb/ft & 159bhp. not sliped once and its second hand off joe.

wheres the best place to buy the grey from? and new to turbos what are the issues with the lugs?

Most Mini suppliers sell them. Saw a few at Malvern today. Going rate is about £35 :)

I'd fit the lightest you can get away with. That means, if in doubt, fit an orange.

Remember to have it properly setup. Not many people do.

I'd say a orange would not hold the torque of the engine.

Have you got a mate with a grey in the car so you can have a feel of the clutch.

I have a double grey in mine, and the wife can't press it (although she's even smaller than you at 4ft 9).
