Here's the start of my MK1 rebiuld. The plan is to put it back on the road with an 850 engine completely standard spec.

Looks like you're going to be having some fun. Not sure if the later roofs where the same shape as the MK 1 roofs?? On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:

Andy as far as I can see the roof panel is the same, I'll double check with somerfords though before removing the old one.

Looks like a great project, probably the most difficult starting point to end up with a standard mk1 but that has to be part of the fun. Mine had a lot of patches but probably not as many as that, it makes it really difficult to tell how it should be put together.

From what I can tell from looking at the somerford catalogue, all roofs were the same regardsless of year?

The roof skin itself is the same no matter what year so if you're just using that it will be fine. If however you are using the top inch or two of the body as well then you need a mk1 as a donor for it to be easy, a mk2 would be possible but the rear window size changed. A mk3 had a smaller gap between the roof gutter and the windows as well as different length doors. A later mk3 has a different roof gutter design as well. If you cut it close enough to the roof gutter it would be possible but a lot of work. |
