Hi all

Want to start work on a new turbo motor for my current car now i have some cash! also some suspension and brake upgrades

at the moment is has an ebay special mg metro motor which was ok to get the car rolling but having weighed up all the options for a decent power a series it seems to me that turbo is the way to go.

Currently I have another mg metro engine in bits to build it from
and also based on what i have found out so far-i have...

a carb-need to rebuild this, also wanting to make a solid jet holder but most pics seem to have gone off here so any advice would be welcome

a plenum which I have cut the inlet and had welded on facing forwards, also a stub for me bailey DV which was 2nd hand off ebay, also had the poppet valve hole welded up.

Inlet which I have bead blasted

Intercooler, another ebay special this was a pace aftermarket one from a fiesta turbo, seems good it weighs quite a bit, had one pipe moved should go ok in front of the clutch housing but will need to lose the dizzy!

Got a cheap turbo pump and high and low pressure filters, I intend to run with the return tee'ed in tgo lp side of the pump so mounted it all on the plate to fix low down in the boot on back seat panel

was going tp try without an oil cooler so got splitfire oil temp gauge to keep an eye on things, also got a boost gauge and had a go at smiths-ing them painted needles white and put new bezels on

Any how I was hoping for get around 140-150 break at the wheels so the spec I came up with was

1293 rebore- or whatever block needs

moderate spec pistons

std crank reground and nitrided/tufftrided/balanced as needed

mild cam-was thinking kent 266 or phase 2

turbo head-of some sort!

mirage manifolds with one of their rebuilt t2's

mejajolt dizzyless kit from triggerwheels

sc gearbox with sc roller drops and a 4 pin diff-considered an LSD especially with my 10" rims but they seem expensive-not sure

I think i should be ok with fitting everything together *hehe!* and plumbing it all up as I want to keep the budget as tight as poss, was wondering if anyone could recommend me someone good to build the motor and box as a unit as I want it done properly, was considering the likes of avonbar or MED, just doesnt seem to be much mini wise 'op north'!

Also what head spec is about right for what I want and am I off track anywhere with the spec? any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

Oli

Thanks very much, wont be doing much to outside, just not happy with the back end, got lite n boltz number plate lights but back end just dosent look right. Going to put a works style spotlamp on for reverse and refit the standard fitment numberplate light, got to have some paint re done so will have it in body colour-hopefully!

looks great - good luck with the build

150 atw is loads of power in a mini, just hold on tight!

phase 2 is proven to be a good cam and make sure you get a good - well developed head, i use the med fsi and its working well for me.

Loving the sleeper looks ! The mg cam is a good choice for the road. It's what I used when I built my first engine.

And a bit of a hi jack but Im after one of those steering wheels and boss if anybody had one lying in the shed.

Cracking looking car. what vintage is it? i hear more modern cars have trouble with emissions if you don't have a friendly MOT man? Not wanting to put a spanner in the works.

Thanks-if its any help I have some 11mm fuel hose to fit these pumps, its good year hose and and odd size not always easy to get hold of, I had to buy a foot of it, I still have at least 3/4 of it left so if anyone wants a piece it should make another 3 bits, will happily send out for price of postage.

Car looks mint oli, spec sounds good aswell, either steve (benross) or med arnt too far away.

Let whoever builds the engine have a say on spec as they will no what has worked best in the past, both cams are good.

Think a quaife atb is a good option aswell, get the power down and a fit and forget item aswell

Rick

Thanks for that, I really want to get the best advice from the engine builder, and anyone else for that matter! ,the above were just really my thoughts on what I have found out so far but I still have a lot to learn! Would like to go for the atb diff as I have heard nothing but good things about them, thats really only a compramise down to if the budget will stretch to it.

Cheers

Hi all minor update, steve benross is under way with motor as we speak so just working through the list of bits to get sorted before then. Going top use the car to go to IOM in 4 weeks time so been sorting some bits. Have fitted my megajolt to the old motor, just waiting for a 1/2 af allen drive so I can finally tighten the new crank pulley bolt, but it all runs fine. *happy*

Also stuck in all the new gauges

Oil temp and boost

And after advice from steve and much searching on here bought an aem wideband kit, couldnt resist butchering gauge and fitting a smiths bezel though!

When I built the car the brakes were always shit, I have std rear drums with minifins, ally 4 pots on the front and a single master cyl with a cooper type bias on the rear sub, but the brakes were just shite. So fitted a remote servo in passenger footwell

but this just showed up a bias problem, I tested it on a friends drive, good job too as hard braking produced an impressive hand brake turn! *crying* so junked the lot and put a wilwood in here. *Clapping*

Thats seems to have sorted it for now.Painted ic and rad in VHT matt black under advice again from steve

And been fettling minor bits

Just need to rebuild the carb which I am starting now and then get the turbo and everything else mocked up when manifolds come in, just the downpipe I think is going to be a pain. *oh well*

oh and ive the oil drain to make.

And the ic to fit.

And an electric fan.

And..oh dear seems like there may be more to do!*oh well*
