Alright, I'll have to post images later. I got a little side tracked, and hence have not made much progress, as my wife lost her job, and put a huge halt into my build. But here's my proposed specs:

Mk1 shell with carbon fibre front end, boot and roof.
Spax lowered coil over set
Roll cage, with full interior(so it's still relatively comfortable, it is my daily.)
Jack Knight 6 speed dog box(contested issue, and I'm still debating it)
Straight cut drops, double bushed thanks to Joey once he gets them done.
850cc block +20 over
JE forged pistons with a 10cc dish
Titanium con-rods
New crank custom made by crower for forced induction
12G295head with larger inlet/exhaust
megadyne 256 cam
Dry Decked
Aluminum rad with electric fan/water pump
Orange clutch set up with swiftune super light flywheel(maybe)
megasquirt ignition and eventually siamese injection

I'm aware that some of this might be overkill, but I'm trying to get rid of the weak components of the 850, and that means either ott or not at all. Any comments welcome, unfortunately the car is just a shell right now, but a very well sorted shell, just needs some welds cleaned up, the carbon stuff thrown on, and then paint then I'm ready to go with the rest. I'll get a couple of pics up this week, I'm just so swamped at work trying to get the extra hours to make up my wifes job.

Sounds like a cool project. I've never seen an 850 turbo before. I have a couple of questions:
1. What are you doing about cam bearings in the 850 block?
2. What turbo are you using?
3. When you say larger valves does this mean you will be pocketing the block?
4. I would imagine mk1 shells are worth a fortune in the USA. Would you not be devaluing it massively by putting a carbon front on it?
5. Can you hurry up with the pics?
*happy*

I look forward to updates

As for the cam bearings, I'm going to get the block line bored and some 998 bearings put in, as per Vizards book. To start with I'm going to be using a T25, as it's sitting in my garage. but I plan on going to a gt17 or gt15. And as for the shell, the guy I bought it from had already de seamed it and cut the front end off for a flip front, so it's already devalued, unfortunately. I would have loved to have a restored mk1, but the work to put it back to stock look would be quite a bit. I'll get the pics up this week, as right now I'm at my moms, a 100 miles away from my house.

Where are you getting titanium conrods from?

I seriously doubt it!

Crower. I'm not sure if they do them in house, or if they send off for them, but they'll do a set up for anyone. Go to www.crower.com They quoted me 500ish a rod in U.S. so that's around 300 pounds a rod. Expensive, but I think it's worth it.

I thought standart rods where used even on some of the superflying motors people have on here ?

If so, won't it be overkill / a bragging device more than anything else ?

The Don uses worked standard rods to something like 9,200rpm. Titanium is bound to offer a substantial weight saving though. I assume that's why Paul is enquiring *happy*

lol, perhaps. Being an 850, the rods are weaker, or so I've heard, plus the weight savings can't be argued with... I'd rather have over kill than a blown motor personally.

If your sure you want to stick with that hugely strong bottom end, I'd be tempted to whack a k1100 head and a turbo on and dial 25psi into it, to make it all worth while. But its up to you I suppose.

Well turbo is not stated but I assume there is one going on here.

If not, I don't understand the nuclear proof bottom end and the 256 ...

How about some +0,80 pistons by the way ?
There is no substitute for cubic inches the say ...

256 is going to be fairly radical on an 850

Here's some promised pics. Ignore the toes please, lol. And I have a pic in there on the rear window, meaning the 1/4 glass with a bracket. I've not seen this before, is this for the 1/4 opening glass? And the mini that seems complete-ish, that's the donor.

That link should take you to my album, and I have it set to open, so you shouldn't have to log in to see it. I have Carbon weezel doing me up all the stuff I need, it'll take about 8 weeks to get, and then off to my painter, and then I can start in earnest on everything else. Figured it's about time I pull the finger out.
