Well as I have never really had a build thread for my car and seeing as I had a camera for Christmas, I thought I may as well take some pictures of what i have been doing over Christmas.

After watching the rolling day videos and snapping several of the rubber engine mounts at pod I needed to stop the engine moving around.
I already had a SC solid top mount and the bottom standard gearbox mount. I had a pair of engine steady's off Carl and made up some aluminium brackets and mounted them at either end of the gearbox on the studs.

The engine has a small bit of movement water pump end but nothing to worry about.

When driving the car Last year I could never really reach third gear very easily due to the seat being mounted back further than standard. I had picked up a new seat earlier last year and decided it was time to fit this and move the rod change inside the car to get a better driving position.

The seat is a cobra imola pro and weighs 5.8kg without the mounts. The seat mounts are ally so don't weigh to much. I have had to make some new mounts on the left hand side to move the seat over as It caught the exhaust tunnel.

The internal change is really a copy of jimsters/carls etc whoever did it first *happy*

Basically had a measure up of where it felt best and worked around that. I had read in the past that people had had problems with it moving around so made it from some steel sheet so that i cold weld it to the exhaust tunnel.

I also welded up all the bung holes in the floor and holes from the old seat. Cut out the brackets for the handbrake and moved them further back. Re cut the hole for the cable and shortened the cable. Also plated and welded up the original gearstick hole.

The I linkage to the gearbox was made by my old man. He made it adjustable and we used rs components ujs.

Also added a few extra holes, every little helps.

It drives well and gives alot nicer driving position.

The floor has cracked around the rear sub frame mounts so im going to add some plates and beef it all up before I get to carried away with paint.

Other mods over the winter include a carbon boot floor, Fit sliding front windows, refresh the engine, modify front sub frame And make a new exhaust. I will hopefully get down the list and have it sorted for when the weather gets better.

Cheers for looking Ron.

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Nice mods to make the car easyer to drive, and in turn should then make it faster.

That's some good work Ron. Fair play to you mate.

Think most of us will have been busy with mods over the winter.

For me, I found and fixed a servo leak on the van, re-mapped the Megasquirt, sorted out a sticking rear disc caliper, re-plumbed the boost lines and fixed my punctured Radtec rad after putting a fan bolt through it.

Good luck with the rest of yours.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

By the look of those pics the exhaust will soon be at least one hole lighter !.

The bolts have been cut down and there is clearance on the exhaust if your referring to what looks like a rubbing mark on it.

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

It gives it a lot nicer driving position and as said should hopefully make it easier to drive.

Its just a long slippery slope every year there seems to be a massive list of stuff i want to do! Just hope it makes some difference.

Well I didn't get as much done as i would have liked last weekend as I got really pissed Saturday night! Sunday was wasted!*frown*

I got the saw/files/ hole cutter out Saturday to the rod change unit! Not as much as Paul's but wanted to keep it looking similar to the mount :)

This weekend is engine out and refresh time! Although i hear the pub calling already*tongue*

Looks really nice buddy :)

I'm thinking first and third are a little too far away for me especially when I have the harnesses done up properly,

Did you use the old linkage rod and put the universal joints on to that ? or did you shart with a new peice?

I am tempted by the KAD set up but live in the states so might be cheaper to fab something up.

Cheers

I used a piece of 1/2 inch alloy rod which is the same size as standard, there's no reason why you couldn't use the standard rod. Ron
