First, got to say thanks to Andy Waller & mini13 for lending me their MIG & TIG welders. The MIG was to weld my mates car up, TIG on loan just so I can practice before I make some parts for the car.

With MIG machines, can't beat Clarke ones for welding cars up. Not alot of cash either.

That's bloody good for a first attempt.

Welding stainless needs backing gas unless it is fillet welds your doing. If your gonna weld something like a custom petrol tank you'll need to purge the vessel with argon. I could go on for pages and pages on this, I do it every day at work. I weld aerospace stuff.

Quite amazing what coded welders do. We hired one the other week to weld ally rads for tanks. Quality work, truely amazing.

Looks just like that one in the pic above, but I have to say it's a bit intermittent. Some days it welds really well and others all I can get it to do is make pidgeon shit. Probably just my lack of welding skill/experience. That said, could be my power supply prob's to the garage. You tiging looks good. On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:

Try CO2 & Argon mix rather than just CO

Joe noticed this afternoon the TIG had to be turned up alot higher than normal due to the length of cable going to my shed. Wouldn't of thought your MIG would pull as much current, I might be wrong though. Edited by Jason G on 10th Oct, 2009. On 19th Jan, 2010 wil_h said:

What kind of set up do you need to do stuff that fine? do you need a high freqency set like 400 Hz rather than the normal 50 Hz stuff?

The set I use at work is a Miller351 syncrowave with a foot pedal. Yes it's a high frequency set, don't exactly know what Hz it is though. The thinnest gauge I've welded at work was a 0.21mm butt weld with this machine. The pedal is essential for fine work as it allows slope in and slope out on the amperage.
