Me and John (Minimadmotorman) have always had a sick liking of Metrovans. Over the summer we noticed that we had lots of spare metro parts lieing round and thought we should use them.

Then a 'Low mileage, tidy, test failure Van just needing a bit of welding' came up. So we went down to London and got it:

It's painted in a nice shade of yellow hamertie!

We started of with the rust. There was lots of it!

Basicaly it was scrap, but I like a challenge.

About 2 months later, the welding was done. So we moved on to a bit of spannering and some bolt on panels. By now it was looking good!

We've fitted a nice comfy interior from a later Metro GTi:

Then it was of for MOT. Which it sailed through. (Yes I was shocked too!)

The next area for attention was the engine. It was a bog standard boring 998. So we ripped that out and fitted a low mileage 1275 with a Stage 3 head, K&N filter and a Janspeed exhaust.

Sinse then, we've done brakes, bearings etc and, when we get round to it, are going to fit a black Turbo body kit.

It might look rough, but it drives really well. Which is good, as we've entered it in a banger rally accross europe in April! 2000 miles in 4 days. *happy*

What do you think??

Mad?? Nah!

It's a future classic! *surprised*

I know of 7 or 8 left on the road. There are probably more Mk 1 mini's on the road than Metro Vans!

I've got a big pile of new panels in my cellar, at some point after the rally it will be getting a new front end and back end. Maybe one day we'll get it painted...

Damn...I spot a turbo bonnet! :(

Edit: I don't think your mad. Sensible, easy motor to work on at the side of the road. No electronic crap to put up with. Basic tools, a spare head gasket, wires, tools and other bits & pieces you will make the distance easy. :)

Yep. we broke up a turbo. The log book had been sent of as scrapped about 5 years ago, so it couldn't be fixed. The body was as bad as the van's. Ignoring the shell, at least 90% of the rest of the car is still in use, or soon will be.

In all fairness, I've subtly paint 'NOT' above the Turbo sticker on the bonnet and boot to avoid confusion. *happy*

The Van has been made out of the original van and three donor scrap metros. Call it recycling if you like...

It's a pretty crap one TBH. It's very flexible and has a fair few rust spots....

LOL!

The nurenberg (or how every you spell it) is only a 100 mile diversion on our banger rally... *surprised*

Yep. But our European breakdown cover doesn't cover us for recovery from "The Ring" when it blows up! *surprised*

It will have to be painted at somepoint. I've got a stack of new panels for it in my cellar.

The fron is made almost entirely out of rust and body filler *surprised*

That'll be the extra aero dynamics from the body kit and the weight savings from me hacking the lips of the wings *happy*
