Stack speedo..er no i don't think so!!

Use a mountain bike speedo.

Mount the magnet and pick up somewhere suitable, mine is in the drum the magnet JB welded to the bearing holder/hub and the pick up attached to a small fabricated bracket firmly attached to the drum brake back plate.

Cut and extend the thin cable into the cockpit/drivers seat/office by drilling through the rear arch.

Fit the tiny pod where you like.

Mine is on the steering wheel with an old Nokia in car phone charger so it does'nt get tangled up on full lock.

There are many examples on the market from ?10 up with all sorts of memory applictions such as top speed etc.

Pros...

lightweight
small
accurate
Bit different
a couple of car park points
easy to adjust if you change tyre diameter
Cheap!!

Cons...

Not many have a backlight
the batteries run out after a couple of years
small numbers
Some MOT men don't like them!

cool, i was planning on doing this to mine cos i hate the huge speedo that never reads anywhere near the right speed. no way am i paying £100 for speedy cables to recalibrate it either.

I just hadn't got round to looking where i could mount the the 2 contacts close enough together. Any other places that would be suitable for mounting them?

Dash, front cage, top of gear stick?

I used telecoms bell wire to extend the wire and hid it under the door rubbers.

Drums as suggested, or on the iner pot joints with a bracket to hold the reed switch.

These were geting discussed on teh 16vmini club forum, some of these speedos are only limited to ~100mph etc, but i imagine a beter reed switch shoudl be avaliable from maplins to replace the one you get with the speedo, enabeling it to reach higher speeds :)

The rear drum seemed a logical place to put it. Out of the way.

Yes it has to be so many mm from each other.

Know of a set up running off the frony drive shaft but with suspension movement and steering etc i could see problems.

Put it this way, it has been there for 3 years and been fine!

Evo...

Mine goes to 186 mph

You'll have to check when buying.

I got the idea from some biker buddies, they would do big mph.

They are out there.

You can set them for mph of kph normally.

Just Registered!

There are ones that record it all, and can be hooked up to a computer, replaying speed (graph form), altitude, acceleration etc. :]

Austria, near Vienna

I am also using one: called Sigma Sport 1600: 250km/h max speed, also with average speed, max speed +++..... Mounted the sensor magnet into the rear drum - works perfect for one year now! Take care to buy one which reads more than 99miles. (except you drive a std. 850 Mini)

How would those cordless ones handle all the electric interference emitted my the car?

A thought?

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

mines on the front wheel, ive got a little aluminium bracket coming of the top ball joint, and super glued and taped the other bit to the wheel
then lengthened the wires with some speaker wire and stuck it to the top rail of the dash board where it fits perfectly!

i did try the drive shaft but that wasnt succesful

With this schematic http://www.planetabuggy.com.br/eletronics/computador.htm and this http://hp.autometer.com/products/accessori...edo_sender.html you can make a decent speedo...
