His name is Bart after my grandad who spot welded the roof on the first ever production mini and worked at Longbridge for 6 years. He is an almost standard 998 City E with a 2 piece removable carbon front, KAD 4 pot 7.9" vented setup, AVO shocks, HILOs and solid front subframe top mounts. Will be getting all poly bushes in the next few weeks. Ugly grey interior. Funky dash and door cards which I cant take credit for.

After planning a 1098 NA build for my mini I ran into problems getting CR high enough. I used a 12G295 head slightly opened up to Vizards spec and 7cc dished Hypatec pistons. I would have needed to remove so much material that I would virtually have no deck left. So, I went out and bought a GT15 and turbo HIF44

Heres a quick spec
12G295 head with guide bosses removed
32mm inlet valves
28mm exhaust valves
3 angle valve seats
Hypatec +60 thou pistons
Standard rods
MED nitrocarburised crank
A+ block
Megajolt ignition
Pre verto clutch
Ultralight flywheel
Cross pin diff
3.44 FD

I'm in the middle of stripping the bulkhead and repairing all the rust. Hopefully I will have enough time and money by the end of the summer to fit an ETB dash, nice seats and a proper interior. I've done lots of rust repair so far but I still need to do floors, sills, a door and rear arches

T'was gay as christmas when I got it

Then I toughened him up

Now doesn't have a grille or bumper after it fell off a trailer while bringing it home after it blew a head gasket 200KM from home!

Can you tell I like Nic's car? *happy*

Well myself and PaulH have been making some good progress on the build. The gearbox is built. The block is fully prepped, including tapped oil galleries and under crown oil jets. The short motor should be built this week.
After doing alot of work on a 12G295 I found out that it was cracked. So Benross is sorting a head for me 8-).
Myself and Paul will be making both manifolds and I only have a few bits left to buy.
I also done some work on the bulkhead while the engine was out

Oh, the Ford part number for the jets we used is: 1053936

Steve, I plan on using an SW5. I bought one when I planned for this engine to be NA. Will it be ok or do I need something with more exhaust duration? I have a few standard 998 A+ cams in the garage aswell if they are better. I will be using standard lift rockers

I'll go with the SW5 so. No doubt the engine will be coming out again in 6 months when I make shite of the gearbox so I can change cam then if I have to *happy*

You could be right. I haveny done the dry build yet so I'll find out then. They will need so modding to hit the crowns anyway.

They should be fine those pic. Where befour we removed the tabs and re located the jets when we got back to the main work shop where we did the drilling and welding only fear we had was on the 3 4 bank where we remove the diz boss that the skirt of the piston might foul the jet what with the motor being such a long stroke

Well myself and Paul got a good bit of work done today. We got the block cleaned and painted, core plugs put in and we (Paul did but I watched) milled the centre bearing cap for the strap. We also got the bearing caps milled to take the offset bearing retainer notch. The set I had used the notch in the centre but MED didnt have that type available.

We should get the dry build done within the next week.

Looks good.

Just one question, with the amount you've milled off the centre cap, how are you going to locate the thrust washers against turning ???

I guess you should have the main strap machined after welding it!

Why is that? it didn't take much heat as it was only a series of spot welds

Just a suggestion - where did you source the longer bolts in the centre cap ?
From the photo they look very similar to the ones supplied with my strap, which turned out to be a LOWER grade than the standard bolts.

The bolts came with the minispares small bore strap

these are the bolts that come with it:

I've no idea what grade they are tbh

Mine were Minispares too (although large bore) - at the time, the ones they supplied were a lower grade than the standard bolts !!!

Read this thread

picking up part way down at Jan 2008.

They may have gone back to good ones now but I binned the ones they supplied me.
