ok gents - a bit of controversy coming up! As Avon is and I'm sure MITP will become the most competitive "non-competitive" events for us guys I think we should keep 100% to the rule book, hence

all class D cars should be:-

road registered
mot'd
taxed
insured
road tyres
no nos (I'm sure its not allowed?)

My gold car always was and always will be all of the above - therefore I am suggesting that to compete in class D "we" should have a session and produce the above documents on the Sat - failure to produce means failure to run in class D - wether we police this ourselves or get the british mini club to I'm not bothered. I certainely know in class C there are lots of cars which aren't "road" legal, I'm sure class D is the same. Personally I also think that Kad/K cars should go into a seperate class as well but I can't see that happening this year.

So road legal with docs class D - failure to produce all the above - and you're obliged to go into one of the race classes - agreed gents and ladies?

- this gives you all plenty of time to get your rust sorted and emissions into check.lol!

it would probably be like this one!

I like your thinking, but I'm not sure that tax and insurance have much relevance. If it's got an MOT it's road leagal, insurance and tax are purely procedural.

I know one car that had a fake taxdisk last year though.

Definately road tyres and no NOS. this isn't just class D as you point out.

Wil - I think it just proves everything is cosha, if you have all the docs theres no argument

class d is steel bodied road legal mini, forced induction , no nos, on road legal tyres

John, are you also going to make sure that the class-b regular who hides his nitrous bottle under his passenger seat is not allowed to run?

Personally - I reckon you have a job on your hands convincing the BMC of anything that bites into their time/profit...

Easiest way, is to have an 'official' class D title (ie the British Mini club award) and an unnofical 'turbominis' Class D title - ie your rules...

I mean - how are you going to force these rules onto someone who doesn't frequent, or even know what turbominis.co.uk is? Simply - it ain't going to happen...

Either that - or just enjoy your trap and appreciate the event :)

In reality the fasted D car will come from someone on this forum - like you say we can have an unofficail class d if people want to run it that way - lets keep it clean and see whom has the fastest road legal mini guys!

I have no problem with this proposed method

Although last year i had to argue my way into class d, aparently i was a race car, my tyres werent road legal, my battery wasnt ok led down, and my fuel tank wasnt earthed!! Christ
Fortunately the guy that normally does the checks came over and told them that they were wrong

Ive never known a rwyb be so sharp on rules

I don't mind sorting a trophy for the Class TM winners.

If you are going to improve your chances of winning by enforcing the rules then I think it would be appropriate to exclude anything with more than 8 valves and a single cam.

I dont mind this either

hahaha

Maybe bmc will run a class for 16v cars, they did it for the gtm's after all, though it would be a shame to split the evolution of class d cars up

Paul - I did mention this in my initial thread that I thought there should be a seperate class for Kads and K's but this isn't going to happen this year I would have thought

Tom - this is something which has annoyed me for the 10 or so years I've been doing this event in class C and I know it happens in most of the other classes as well. As honest people I think we need to keep to the rules - don't you?

John, who is not road legal in class C? Im annoyed by this too as Ive always made sure my car is legal to the letter.
I once got kicked out of concours because my tax disc had run out and Id left the new one at home, so the same rule should apply to Avon IMO.

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

I agree will wil on this one. MOT is all the proof you need to make a car road worthy.
Insurance & Tax just adds more expense to people who want a fun car for shows/events.

£40 for a MOT anyone????????????

So, if we're going to have it as 'motd, taxed, insured, etc - then lets extend it to having driven there instead of being trailered???

(rubs hands and awaits Russel the turbo not-so-shed van man to come along)....

Personally speaking - If you have got number plates, indicators that flash, a brake light that works, wipers that wipe, headlights that come on, and race with tyres that are road legal - then you are class D ready...

I lost out two consecutive years to a trophy by cars that didn't meet the above, but ultimately - it didn't change anything, I was the first place loser.
It was still a moral victory for me, and that was all that really mattered.

My meccy & any race car is that Dave...apart from not having a horn & number plate light.
Mind...circuit cars aren't much good at 1/4 mile.

I agree with this, I don't see a road legal car with a piece of paper differently to a road legal car, in these circumstances. Used on the road however, we'll that's just naughty.

Surely it isn't much of a win to the first place if he/she knows they haven't rightfully deserved it.

Take MITP last year.

We had two winners in my mind, Tom with the DON and Nic with the first five port in the 12s.

One road legal, the other, well, possibly not.

Who gives a poo about the trophy.

An MOT certificate isnt worth the paper its written on, and has no baring as to whether a car is road legal or not.

The only common thing an MOT, and legality have, is that its the law to have a valid cert to legally drive on the road.

Ive been moaning about events like TOTB since no2 or so, given the number or non-road legal cars at it ( yes, they have MOT's ).

But in reality, its trying to fight a lost cause. For a car to be legal.....start looking into Construction and Use acts, and consider would the cars comply with all its legislation, and could it pass an MOT if need be at the event ?

There is a lot more to legaility, than an MOT.
I understand the plight, but it will only cause more aggro trying to enforce it, as so many people have different interpretations of what is legal, and what isnt.

And from what I understand, it isnt that hard to get an MOT cert for a car on the mainland if you ask the right people.....even if the car doesnt appear at a test station !!!

202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will
