Just got a text from Gavin Wakely.
Awesome day out he said, plenty of track action, lots of cars.
The DON had a bit of trouble, I dont know what, but Gavin said he was just about the fastest thing there in his n/a speedster...

For those of you who dont know his car.
Apparently there was a BMW S that he sailed past, then found out that the S was doing about 126mph, pretty impressive I think, there were lots of race cars that he was passing too.

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Crikey! that was flying

I ended up not going

With one thing and another we left a bit later than planned and were looking to get there about 1

However the A46 was closed due to flood damage at stroud(i dunno if i was being thick but i cant remember seeing any signs saying that). The detour eventually took us back to gloucester. By this time i would have got there 2.30 or later, it wasnt looking sunny, and tom didnt need the seat belt so i turned around and came home.

On the plus side the roads were a lot drier on the way back *wink*

My attempts to race an Audi R8 didnt go well as he was just not interested at all, grrrr

I managed to get up there today, that speedster really was flying. I don't know the engine but it sounded to me more like a bike engine with the only give away being the gearbox whine. I checked that it was an a series.

Shame about the DON. I really wanted to see that in action.

Also managed to find myself a near perfect crank at the auto jumble for good money.

Is it me or did numbers seem slightly down on last year?

I think today was Gavin's day, he seemed to own the track, and was bloming impressive to watch.

All in all it was a bad day for the turbo boys:

The DONKey failed the noise checks, which was a shame considering the work Tom put in to get it ready.

Jim managed all off three laps before his water pump packed in :(

Neil arrived & left on a trailer, thanks to his turbo lump letting go whilst filming last weekend.

Well I don't know about the Combe curse, I had a great day. I got two sessions in and the car performed great. Only on the second session I had to take it steady as I was low on fuel!! Bloody thirsty these turbo motors, eh!!
Must agree with the other coments about Gavin, he was absolutely flying.

I had a good day, I waited for the track to dry up before going out, as I knew traction was going to be a problem. I only managed half a dozen or so laps as my electric water pump died :( but was having great fun before that, hitting avon rise at 7.5k on a 3.44 was fun, I was a bit of a girl around camp, as I just hate that bend, (not sure why) The car ran and handled well who says 200bhp (only runing low bost) is too much for a mini? going to get a water pump sorted then get some track days in. Shame I couldn't follow gavin around, there was nothing quick on the track the session that I was out.

all I need todo now is learn to drive, lol but at least I kept it on the black stuff this year.

Shame Jimster, was looking forward to watching your car go.

As always with shows I was far too busy to get chance to watch any track action so glad I didn't miss much.

Your car should be awesome when you get it running on track properly!

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Well what can I say ? The car & me had a F--king brilliant day*tongue* the car wasn't set up for circuit (geometry was still set for 1/4 mile) aswell as the final drive gearing was wrong, and the cars first time on a circuit, so wasn't expecting miricals but I was genuinely blown away by the cars overall performance even though I was bouncing off the rev limiter at 8500, and judgeing by the coments at the circuit and on the forum so were many others*tongue*
Sorry things didn't go well for all, My apologise to Tom with the Don, cos if I had listened better to what you had said I would have glady lent you my muffler silencer when I wasn't on the track or you could have purchased one from Merlin M-sport (Unfortunately £50)
ps. cheeer's Paul for the thread aswell as neil-g for the pic (the balistic sausage thats a new one)

Thanks for the post dated offer Gav, I did go and look at buying one of the clamp-on silencers, but even after some exhaust surgery at Combe I was still at 105dB, I wasn't confident that one of the clamp-on types would have got it down below 100dB, to add awkwardness the tailpipe of the DON isn't round either, meaning I'd have had to bash the crap out of a £60 silencer just to see if it wouldn't be good enough........suitably disheartened I parked it slap in the middle of the paddock and looked on humourously as crowd after crowd of people swarmed round it.

From what I saw of you on track you and your car looked to be flying, fantastic stuff.

Was a quality day out over all I think, I broguht a mate along who isn't really all that much in to minis and he said he had a cracking time!

Tom,

whats the exhaust system on the Don like?

I saw that is disappears down the back of the engine and pops out infront of the rear wheel, but didn't think to have a look underneath at MITP

does it even have a silencer?

Also i was wondering if you notice anything coming out of the scramer pipe as its right in front of you.

yea the paint job is new ish, Daz owns Bodyworx, he painted the car a few weeks back, and did the last two mini 7 rounds in it.

It goes into the tunnel, there is a silencer approx 8" dia by 16" length, alloy case for lightweight!

The screamer pipe has been a bit of a disappointment TBH, not much at all comes out of it.
