Finally started work today on turboing my new car. It's a 73 clubby and was pretty much stock when i got it.

I've got 10 days to turn it from a 998 to my 1293 turbo lump cos the cars my daily driver and i go back to work on the 2nd. this time i've ditched the T3 and gone for a T2 on a metro manifold so it means i've got to make a downpipe and an oil drain and stuff, aswell as the bulkhead box, new steering rack, new dash the list goes on.

Need to say a big thanks in advance to kean (T2clubby) for all the help today and over the coming week and hopefully anton will be coming over at some point to do the wiring for me :)

started just after lunch today anyway and managed to get a bit done.

bulkhead chopped out, sure was a lot more difficult with an angle grinder, used a plasma cutter on my last shell.

tomorrow morning i'll weld it in and nip to halfords for a can of old lady maroon and tidy up the engine bay. Hopefully i can start to build the engine in the afternoon and get it dropped in on christmas afternoon.

yeah thats the plan.

the only thing i'm waiting for now is my cylinder head which should be ready in the week, gonna use a spare one for now so i can get the downpipe made cos thats the only part i'm really not looking forward to.

Looking good, glad to see I'm not the only one with a mad Xmas rebuild.

:EDIT: I should have mine finished on boxing day (would be done tomorrow but I'm band from the workshop on Xmas day ) once I'm done I can pop up and give you a hand if you want and take that 998 off your hands.

cheers for the comments chaps :) there's no way i'd get it done on me own though it's a good job keans going to be helping me!

just got back from halfords so its time to fire up the welder, should be another update tonight hopefully.

Cool, way to go, ill be using this time to get cracking on mine too, starting boxing day :)

Should be easy enough to do in the time if your dedicated.

Have you got a downpipe for the T3 setup ? If so this can be adapted to fit the T2 conversion. I cut mine and added a small piece into it to get the correct length/angle.

yeah i've still got my T3 downpipe, the plan was to cut the flange off it then make a turbo elbow that mates up to it. I haven't got the std elbow with my T2 i've just got one of the plates from Ben H and a picture of his as a guide. Using the adapter plate off jimster aswell for the manifold. I think we'd be fucked without the chaps on here helping each other out.

Haven't really done much on the car today, all i've got done is the bulkhead box welded in and the bulkhead cleaned and painted. Haven't bothered painting the rad cowling on the inner wing cos i need to chop it out but my angle grinder has decided to shit itself hence why i haven't linished the welds round the box. got a little bit of paint left over though so i'll seam seal them and paint over that when i can get some sealer on boxing day.
Only managed to find one can of damask red which is the original colour of the car, it matched perfectly in the engine bay, trouble is the outside's been resprayed and is a lighter red but i suppose it looks better than it did and it'll do for me.



Was going to build the engine up tonight but i'd bought me mom a dash for christmas so i had to steal her mini and pop over ant's to fit it as a surprise for her tomorrow.

Won't be building the engine till boxing day at the earliest now cos keans coming round tomorrow afternoon and we're going to sort the steering rack and fuel lines cos they're easier with 2 sets of hands.

Looking good, boxing day in the garage, thats commitment. :)

Spent 6 hours out in the garage yesterday myself but won't get back out there till wednesday or thursday. I hate Xmas ...... time off work to play with the cars but stupid family days that don't allow you to do anything.
