Hi

I talked with a rolling road operator today, and he had tested both MS and VEMS, and rated the later better. Have anyone here any experience with it?

Hi,
I've not tried it.
Two reasons why I wouldn't
1 .. Website is very difficult to find your way round, with no forum for help. This concerns me as you'll need alot of help / information due to the A series being the difficult engine to inject.
2 .. The price appears a little more than MS, but there may be more functions on the VEMS, but no easy way to find out.....

EDIT. Features seem good, knock WBO2, everything on board. But will still need a siamese port code......
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hi,
It would "appear" that you can map the injection timing, which is what we need!

I think you can map the injection timing if you have a trigger wheel (dont quote me:)). It har better documenation in other languages like swedish (being Noregian I can read that:)) on vems.se. They even have a foum. I dont think it will come out much more expensive than MS with a wideband controller. VEMS have this included. the cheapest place I have found is on vems.hu. but phattransmissions in UK have got them too.

For just over £300 compete with every option. That is way better price that the Megasquirt will ever be. There is no need for extra knock sensing modules, wideband controlers, and it comes with the same connectors that rover use on the injection cars, which is handy for me *tongue*

I am actualy quite tempted

Hi,
From the look of this it could be what's needed
http://www.phattransmissions.com/vems2.html

This line interests me the most .... Injector opening configuration and ..... Injector staging
Asuming that the first means timing, is this the tool for the job?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Strange that it uses the Megatune software.

Doesn't that suggest that it is a development of Megasquirt?

Looks good though, particularly the fact that you can wire a WBO2 sensor directly without the controller.

The big question is: can it do the timed injection for the siamesed port engine. More importantly, can you talk to someone that knows enough about Minis and VEMS to give you a correct answer.

The other thing to consider is what programming language does it use? At least Megasquirt II uses C which is readily accesible.

I have my Megasquirt on order and the code should be done soon so I am sticking with it for now.

Its an offshoot from MS...

Some guys decided to go their own route, and formed VEMS.

it uses the GUI from megasquirt at least, but I dont THINK the rest is identical. They have a chatboard with some guys with loads of knowledge, maybe try that to ask about the siamese troubles?

Hi,
Andre .. As you speak the lingo, could you ask the question over there, please?
We need, as far as I know, to be able to fire the injectors in a 1,1,2,2,1,1 order.

EDIT I've joined the members page see here... http://www.vems.hu/wiki/index.php?page=MembersPage scroll down to Memberspage/GavinWilkinson and click on the link.
I'll post back if I get a response.....

Cheers,
Gavin :)

Gavin,

Did you see that there is a guy on there trying to inject an MGB. He's called Steve Shack.

He's already picked up on the siamesed port problem.

Suggest that you contact him through the members page. I would but I'm not a member.

Hi,
Axel .. No I didn't. I've edited his page with a question, I think that's what you're supposed to do!
I think he's come up with a good idea of having 4 indentical injectors 2 per port and 1 for each cylinder.
That way you can change the firing order to suit the A series by simply swapping the injector plugs round!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

The critical bit is the precise timing of the injection event.

Until we do some trials we do not know whether we can use 180degree injection events or need individual injector timing and advance to suit inlet valve opening.

Hi,
I'm trying to find out about the timing bit.
I've downloaded the VEMS version of MegaTune, but can't seem to find anything about injection timing.... :(

EDIT .. I've received an e-mail from Phat Bob, the UK distributor for VEMS. The 1,1,2,2 firing order isn't a problem. He's getting back to me on the timing......
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hi,
I've sent e-mails back and forth to Rob of VEMS UK. He says he can assign the injection events to any tooth on the 36 -1 wheel with the VEMS system. Would this do the job when used with a cam sensor?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hi guys,

I have been thinking of doing injection on my turbo mini for couple of years now, and that is way I've hooked up to Vems. My name is Tonci Loncar so you can see my members page there.
Vems is great system I have it on my astra mk2 gte (with 2.0 16v turbo engine) for over a 6 months and it works great, but it still can't do siamese since there is no exact injection timing setup. They have ability and knowlage to do it, but they think that there is not enough demand for it, maybe you guys can prove them they are wrong:). They are now working on cop (coil on plug) ignition for audi 5 cyl engines, I think that they are close to finish now.

Hi,
I think the VEMs system would be ideal. It was everything on board, plus lots of injector/ coil drivers. I'd get my order in now if it wasn't for the reply I got.....
Any code in our system is written and tested by the development team, we were opensource until some professional companies helped themeselves to our wideband code. They are not interested in the complexity of the siamesed port problem, so VEMS will not offer a solution for you :(

Gavin :)

No point if the code is not open source. If it doesn't work then you con only throw it away.

That is the real advantage of Megasquirt, the MSII code is written in C and readily available.

I just hope Jean gets time to finish the siamesed port code soon.
