Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

I have now plugged the block and had them all welded in position and ground the tops off roughly with an angle grinder. Just need to find time tomorrow at work to surface grind it back nice and flat.

I thought you done the top of the block and the head with a fly cutter in a mill,to get a rougher finish for the head gasket to work better

Wouldn't different thermic abilities make problems when the block is hot? I mean cast iron and the welds would expand differently? These might not be below the fire rings of the gasket, but still? Jim, did you do the same?

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem. |

I used cast iron on mine, but the difference of thermal expaansion of mild steel and grey cast iron is very small, and as only two studs go half and half into the block and plug i don't think the difference would be huge. Having said that cast iron bar is not at all cheap, i had to buy a 4m length!!!! |
